Job summary Gastroenterology - University Hospitals Dorset (both RBH and PGH sites)
We are looking to appoint 1 new colleagues to the Gastroenterology Department at University Hospitals Dorset, resulting from the merger between the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) and Poole General Hospital (PGH).
This is a new permanent post for a full-time (10PA's with option of 11) consultants gastroenterologists, though applicants wishing to work flexibly or less than full-time will be considered. Sub-specialist interests such as hepatology, IBD or nutrition would be desirable but not essential and any sub-specialty interest would be considered. ERCP/EUS is not required for this post. It is essential that any applicant is highly competent and independent in therapeutic endoscopic management of GI bleeding and able to manage a wide variety of complex inpatient gastroenterology. Accreditation in General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology is essential.
Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be joining a team of 22 Consultants across 2 sites, with a wide range of specialist interests including IBD, hepatology, ERCP/EUS and upper GI therapeutics. There are also 4 middle-grade staff, 7 WTE IBD nurses, 8.75 WTE liver nurses, 3.75 WTE Iron deficiency anaemia nurses, 6 WTE ACT nurses and one WTE research nurse.
Dorset is in the process of a major reconfiguration of Hospital services following the outcome of the fundamental Clinical Services Review. This recommended the Royal Bournemouth Hospital (RBH) as the Major Emergency Hospital for East Dorset with Poole General Hospital (PGH) being the planned care centre. The merger of PGH and RBH created University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) NHS Foundation Trust in October 2020.
The merged gastroenterology department is one of the largest units in the South of England with high volume endoscopy well in excess of 25,000 procedures per annum, including specialist complex endoscopy. The merged unit will also allow for greater development of sub-specialty interests, whilst maintaining skills and expertise in general gastroenterology. Joining the department offers an exciting and unique opportunity to be involved in the re-design of gastroenterology services in one of the largest gastroenterology units on the South Coast.

There is a planned move of this service expected during
2025 as part of our Transformation Programme - this role and base of work will relocate to
cross site, Bournemouth and Poole Hospital. Upon transfer, excess mileage allowance/ reimbursement will not apply for this change, and any travel between the postholder's home and work base will be classified as a commute. Any other changes unrelated to this, will be handled in line with National terms and conditions.
As part of our commitment to delivering high-quality care across seven days, this post may involve participation in an out-of-hours rota, including evenings, weekends, and/or bank holidays, in accordance with service needs. Any work undertaken outside standard hours/PA's will attract remuneration in line with the respective NHS Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions of Service.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential - MRCP or equivalent
- On the specialist Register or due to CCT/CESR within the next 6 months.
Qualifications Essential - Full registration with GMC
Desirable - Higher Degree (e.g. MD/PhD)
Experience Essential - Wide range of Gastroenterology experience
- JAG Accreditation in Upper and Lower GI Endoscopy
