Are you a compassionate and motivated individual looking to make a significant difference in the lives of students with additional needs? We are seeking a Specialist Learning Mentor to join a vibrant Primary School in Westcliff-on-Sea. This full-time, temporary to permanent role offers an incredible opportunity to support students with SEND / SEMH needs, fostering their academic, social, and emotional development.

This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment and is eager to provide tailored support to children, empowering them to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

Provide individual and group support to students, promoting confidence and independence in their learning.
Work collaboratively with teachers, SENDCo, and pastoral staff to implement tailored strategies and interventions.
Facilitate and lead SEND / SEMH intervention groups for identified students.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with families, acting as a key point of contact for parents and carers.
Monitor and record progress, maintaining accurate records of interventions and outcomes.
Support students during break and lunch times, encouraging positive social interactions and behaviours.
Assist with the transition of children into mainstream classes when appropriate.
Employ behaviour management strategies and positive reinforcement techniques to support student engagement and well-being.

Qualifications and Experience

Experience working with children with SEND / SEMH needs in an educational setting.

Training or knowledge of therapeutic approaches such as nurture or Team Teach.

Familiarity with EHCPs and risk assessments for children with additional needs.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

A proactive, empathetic, and patient approach to supporting children.

A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
