Job Description

UK Engineering Manager for Core Technology Integrations

IG’s UK Division is seeking an exceptional technology lead for exciting new projects that will enable and deliver faster end-to-end products to better serve customers and drive growth.

As the successful candidate, you will be dissatisfied with the status quo, and determined to build better, safer, and faster. You will have hands-on experience in building financial systems in the enterprise and embedding modern engineering practices. You will have proven experience in effective coaching, coordinating complex projects, envisioning and evangelising enterprise architecture, and influencing decisions across

technology teams and the business.

Who are we :

Hello, we’re IG Group. No, not Instagram – though we're a pretty big deal ourselves. We’re a global, FTSE -listed company made up of a collection of progressive fintech brands in the world of online trading and investing. The best part? We’ve snapped up many awards for our top-class platforms, forward-thinking products, and incredible employee experiences.

We believe in financial freedom. And our purpose is to help ambitious people achieve it. Around , people use our groundbreaking technology and forward-thinking platforms to trade the financial products they know and love.

Did we mention we have offices in countries? Yes, when you join IG Group, you'll have the chance to work across multiple brands with people all over the world. We work in cross-functional teams, focused on delivering at pace to improve the experience of traders on our platforms.

We also think hard about our ways of working as a company. At IG Group, we’ve set out five target behaviours that we expect everyone to strive to achieve in all that we do :

Lead & Inspire : Leading teams in a way that drives trust, alignment, and enthusiasm;

Think Big : We focus on the problems that most move the needle of commercial outcomes;

Champion the client : We always keep the client's needs front of mind and deliver as much value for them in all that we do;

Deliver at pace : We work to ensure nothing stands in the way of fast delivery of sustainable growth for our business; and

Raise the bar : We raise the bar by taking ownership of outcomes and being accountable for making things better across IG.

What you’ll do :

Partner with the UK commercial product leads to discover desirable, feasible, and viable customer-centric products, with a focus on initiatives requiring extension and decoupling of the Core Technology domain.

Monitor the performance of the rd party development team to ensure engineering best practices, quality code, and delivery at pace as benchmarked by DORA elite performance.

Lead and inspire the technical direction for the team. Drive the discovery of constraints and dependencies in IG’s complex technology, tackle risks early, and ensure a focus on building working software.

Partner with IG Architects to think big by illustrating a future architecture vision that will provide greater autonomy for the UK to control its investment in the Core Technology that fuels its products and services, while accelerating future integrations.

Communicate progress and share success with the UK division, the Technology function and the wider organisation. Share learnings from projects undertaken back into IG’s engineering and product communities to fuel continuous learning and raise the bar .

What you’ll need for this role :

Stakeholder management

Devises stakeholder management strategies to ensure effective engagement and communication across the team, other functions, external parties, and senior leadership. Evidence of ability to gain buy in and aligning people across the organisation to drive progress.

Leadership

Able to evidence knowledge and effective use of formal leadership techniques to coach and inspire the team, align cross-team activity, evangelise transformation, and deliver results. Experience managing a team, and developing individuals for performance.

Engineering

Experience embedding engineering best practices including continuous integration, test-driven development, trunk-based development, pair programming, DevOps mindset, shift left on security, quality, and observability, incrementalism, and iteration. Evidence of using data to fuel continuous improvement, for example, measuring DORA metrics to reach elite performance.

Hands-on technical skills

  • years experience in building new services, extending and improving legacy systems predominantly in a Java enterprise ecosystem with a more recent focus on containerisation and cloud migration. Can evidence building secure, performant, scalable, observable, and resilient systems with robust and accessible APIs. While the focus of this role is on leading and coaching the development team including remote external contractors, and co-located permanent staff, the successful candidate will be willing and able to dive into the details, review code, and ideally spend time pairing with developers to ensure a holistic understanding of the problem domain, and lead by example.

A passion to do awesome things

Demonstrates a passion for their work and achieving ambitious things with their team. Determined to conquer the Kobayashi Maru, while planting seeds to ensure backup options when the team hits blockers. Uses Lean, Agile, and AI workflows appropriately to benefit the project. Is excited to learn and work in the fast-paced, complex world of the financial market

The perks :

It really is more than a job. We’ll recognize your talent and make sure that you can still have a life – at work, and outside of it. Networks, committees, awards, sports and social clubs, mentorships, volunteering opportunities, extra time off… the list goes on.

Where you’ll work :

We follow a hybrid working model; we reckon it’s the best of both worlds. This model also feeds into our secret ingredients for innovation : diversity, flexibility, and close connection.

Plus, you’ll be welcomed into a diverse and inclusive workforce with a lot of creative energy. Ask our employees what their favourite thing is about working at IG, and you’ll hear an echo of ‘our culture’! That’s because you can come to work as your authentic self.
