Job description
Programming Assistant - Liverpool

Summary

Being a Programming Assistant for the National Trust is all about people: connecting with them, inspiring them, and making sure they have the best possible day when they come to visit. You will assist in the delivery and development of a programme of Summer of Play outdoor activities and events at Speke Hall.

Salary: 13.25 per hour

Working Pattern: You will work 22.5 hours per week (Friday, Saturday & Sunday)

Contract Duration: Fixed term until 6th September 2026

Proposed Start Date: 10th July 2026

What it's like to work here

Reporting to the Visitor Experience Manager, you’ll be part of a friendly, dynamic team based at Speke Hall. It’s an exciting time to join the team as we’re focused on delivering a Summer of Play to remember at Speke Hall, full of outdoor fun and activities for our visitors. There’s never a dull day working here. This role supports a busy group of properties that welcomes over 1.6 million visitors every year, so you’ll not be afraid of getting out and about to make things happen and juggle a varied workload.

Our friendly, outgoing teams are passionate about the work we do to conserve these special places and to share the stories with a wide range of visitors. We’re looking for someone to work with us who is enthusiastic, adaptable and a full team player and who enjoys variety. Standards of excellence in customer service and visitor engagement are essential.

What you'll be doing

Working with the team, you'll help with the creation and delivery of a Summer of Play that brings Speke Hall to life for our visitors, creating magical memories that will encourage them to visit all year round. The programme will celebrate each property's unique characteristics and Spirit of Place to create meaningful connections with our visitors each time they visit.

You will ensure we provide an enjoyable visitor experience, consistently exceeding visitors’ expectations. You may also be involved in outreach engagement activities and events. Understanding how and why we engage our supporters is key. You’ll help link everything we do back to our cause and the on-going work we do.

You’ll help deliver high standards of presentation to ensure that our day-to-day visitor experience is in tip-top condition to ensure visitors have the best visit possible. You will work alongside and support volunteers and delivery partners to bring our experiences to life to grow audiences and broaden appeal. You’ll likely to be checking standards of presentation on site and support the evaluation of visitor programming to continuously improve service and experiences across the portfolio.

You can view the full role profile for this role in the document attached. You don't need to have all of the knowledge, skills and experience listed in the role profile; this is just to provide a full picture of what’s possible in this role.

Who we're looking for

We'd love to hear from you if you're:

a good communicator who can build relationships with a wide range of people

a team player, but can also work by yourself

adaptable and have a flexible approach

understanding of the importance of great service

keen to learn new things

well organised and able to manage time well

The package
