  • Position Purpose summary :
  • The Intergenerational Program Coordinator will lead the development, provide facilitation, and plan for sustainability of an intergenerational program encompassing all Village programs. This unique initiative, the result of a Salvation Army Innovation Grant, aims to bridge the gap between generations by fostering meaningful relationships between seniors, adults, and children through structured social and recreational activities.
  • ACCOUNTABILITIES :
  • Develop and implement a structured, goal-oriented intergenerational program that includes physical activities, games, crafts, special events and other recreational opportunities.
  • Facilitate opportunities for interaction between participants of different generations, encouraging mutual respect, learning, and friendship.
  • Collaborate with existing program staff across various departments (seniors, children, and adult services) to integrate intergenerational activities into existing programming.
  • Utilize existing spaces and resources (e.g., gym, games room, pavilion, secure outdoor areas) for program implementation.
  • Conduct research and stay updated on best practices for intergenerational programming.
  • Create a resource binder and implementation plan for sustainable program delivery.
  • Regularly evaluate program outcomes, adjusting to ensure ongoing success and relevance.
  • Participate as an active member of the steering committee for this project.
  • Build relationships with community partners and social service agencies to expand the program's reach.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for leadership and funders to demonstrate the program’s impact and innovation.
  • Maintain statistical information on participation as assigned.
  • Uphold all Salvation Army policies, directives, and operating guidelines as contained in the Policy Manual of The Salvation Army London Village.
  • Working Conditions :
  • This is a temporary full-time position based on

  • hours per week.
  • Primarily based at London Village, utilizing various indoor and outdoor facilities on site.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required to meet program requirements including occasional evenings or weekends.
  • The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
  • Interaction with diverse groups including seniors, children, adults, those with developmental disabilities and other program staff.
  • Some physical activity involved in facilitating recreation-based programming.
  • Ability to lift / move up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent lifting, twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, pushing and pulling.
  • Walking and standing for long periods.
  • Some kneeling, running may be required.
  • Some travel may be associated with this position.
  • Normal hours of work :
  • Monday to Friday day shifts, 9 : 00 a.m. to 5 : 00 p.m. and includes a ½ hour paid meal break.
  • The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, exemplifying Christian standards of conduct.
  • Education, Qualifications and Certifications :
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, Therapeutic Recreation degree / diploma, Psychology degree, or related education deemed equivalent.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.

  • Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements :
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in program development, preferably in an intergenerational or multi-generational context.
  • Experience working with seniors, children, and adults in social service or community settings.
  • Knowledge of the challenges related to aging, youth development, and fostering cross-generational relationships.
  • Experience coordinating activities and events for diverse groups.
  • Ability to communicate in other languages would be an asset.
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office products is required - i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Internet; ability to successfully interact with iPads / tablets and Smart Boards.
  • Skills and Capabilities :
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and exercise good judgement.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage and build relationships with participants of all ages.
  • Ability to research other similar programs as a reference point and cite best practices to implement.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Creative and innovative approach to program design and problem-solving.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to build partnerships.
  • Represent the organization in a positive, professional and engaging manner.
  • Commitment to promoting inclusivity, diversity, and breaking down stereotypes across generations.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

  • Compensation :
