Job overview
An opportunity to join an established interventional radiology service and help shape its future development
The highly regarded, forward-thinking Radiology Department at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated substantive Consultant Interventional Radiologist to join our friendly and ambitious team. This permanent appointment offers the opportunity to contribute to an established interventional radiology service, work across a broad range of procedures and help shape the future direction of the service across Hampshire Hospitals and the wider regional network.
This is an exciting time to join Hampshire Hospitals. We have invested in our interventional radiology service, with refurbishment and modernisation of our angiography suites to provide a modern clinical environment. We are looking for a colleague with a strong interest in vascular and general interventional radiology who would also welcome the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of our interventional oncology service.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work across Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester, delivering a broad range of vascular and non-vascular interventional radiology procedures. Our established workload includes peripheral vascular intervention, embolisation, venous intervention, nephrostomy and biliary intervention, image-guided drainage and biopsy, vascular access and other minimally invasive treatments.
We are particularly interested in recruiting a colleague with a strong vascular interest and a broad-based general interventional radiology practice who is keen to develop their clinical interests within a supportive and collaborative team.
Alongside our established interventional workload, our interventional oncology service continues to develop, creating opportunities for the successful candidate to become involved in and contribute to the growth of minimally invasive oncological treatments, including tumour ablation and other image-guided therapies. We would welcome someone enthusiastic about developing their experience and expertise in this area and helping shape the future direction of the service.
Working for our organisation
Across HHFT we currently have 2 IR/Fluoro rooms and 1 Interventional room, 2 clinical rooms for ultrasound guided procedures, and day case recovery faculties on each site, 5 static CT scanners and 3 static MRI scanners (details below). This includes a private imaging facility on the Basingstoke site (Candover Clinic) which is part of the NHS trust and offers general X-ray, ultrasound, CT and MRI. Insignia PACS, CRIS and Talking point Voice Recognition are integrated across HHFT (PACS system undergoing replacement currently). Home-reporting workstations are provided for all Consultant Radiologists to facilitate the on-call service, flexible reporting and additional voluntary reporting (‘insourcing’).
The diagnostic on-call runs from 1700 – 2000 weekdays and 0900 – 2000 at the weekend, a separate rota for each site. An out of hours IR service is provided via a regional network with Frimley Health Foundation Trust.
The trust has recently committed to a multi-million pound programme of investment to refresh diagnostic imaging equipment over the next 10 years. The department has already benefited from a completely new fleet of Ultrasound machines, new X-ray rooms, and a new CT scanner. Two new MRI scanners are to be installed at the end of 2023.
