About the Role

A creative, modern, and high-achieving secondary school in Hammersmith is seeking an organized and passionate Art Technician to support their thriving Art & Design Department.

In this varied and hands-on role, you will work alongside teaching staff to ensure studio spaces are well-prepared, equipment is safely maintained, and students across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 (GCSE & A-Level) have access to the materials and technical support they need to flourish artistically.

Key Responsibilities

  • Studio & Workshop Preparation: Set up equipment, tools, and media (paints, clay, printmaking tools, textiles, and digital equipment) for daily art lessons and practical exams.

  • Kiln & Clay Management: Prepare clay, load and operate the ceramic kiln safely, and assist with firing and glazing student pottery work.

  • Display & Exhibitions: Mount, frame, and display student artwork across the school, and assist in setting up annual art exhibitions and moderation showcases.

  • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all studios, prep rooms, and storage areas comply with COSHH and health and safety standards; carry out routine safety checks on tools and equipment.

  • Stock & Resource Management: Monitor stock levels of consumables, order art supplies, process deliveries, and keep prep rooms clean and organized.

Key Requirements

  • Background or degree in Art, Fine Art, Ceramics, Textiles, or a related creative discipline.

  • Previous experience as an Art Technician in an educational setting or studio environment is highly desirable.

  • Practical knowledge of art techniques, including printmaking, ceramics/kiln operation, and darkroom/digital art equipment.

  • Excellent organizational skills, creativity, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a department.

  • Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to complete one).

What the School Offers

  • Outstanding, light-filled art studios and well-resourced prep spaces.

  • A supportive, vibrant, and highly collaborative creative arts team.

  • Excellent transport connections across Central and West London (District, Circle, Hammersmith & City, and Piccadilly lines nearby).

  • Opportunities for ongoing professional development and skill building.
