The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Designer to join our engineering team, designing electrical systems for bespoke machinery, automated production equipment and industrial control systems.
This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong electrical design professional who enjoys working on complex engineering projects, from initial concept and detailed design through to manufacture, testing and commissioning.
Working closely with mechanical design engineers, software & controls engineers, project managers and manufacturing teams, you will play a key role in delivering reliable, safe and cost-effective electrical design solutions. This is a customer facing role with high calibre clients (NASA, BAE. Boeing & Airbus). You will also provide technical guidance to other designers and contribute to the ongoing development of our electrical design standards and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed electrical schematics, control circuit diagrams, panel layouts, wiring diagrams and cable schedules.
- Design electrical control panels, machine electrical systems, power distribution and control circuits for automated machinery.
- Develop complete electrical design packages, including bills of materials (BOMs), wiring diagrams, cable schedules and manufacturing documentation.
- Select appropriate electrical components, including circuit protection, contactors, motor starters, variable-speed drives, servo drives, sensors and safety devices.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable UK electrical regulations, machinery safety requirements and relevant standards.
- Work closely with PLC and controls engineers to integrate electrical hardware with automation and control systems.
- Liaise with manufacturing, panel-building and assembly teams to resolve technical queries and ensure designs are practical and suitable for manufacture.
- Support design reviews, electrical testing, factory acceptance testing (FAT), installation and commissioning activities.
- Manage design changes, maintain accurate drawing revisions and ensure technical documentation is controlled and up to date.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and design checking support to other members of the electrical design team and / or apprentices.
- Identify opportunities for design standardisation, cost reduction, improved reliability and enhanced manufacturing efficiency.
About You
You will be an experienced electrical design professional with a strong background in industrial machinery, automation or special-purpose equipment manufacturing.
You will combine excellent technical knowledge with a practical understanding of how electrical systems are designed, built, tested and commissioned.
Essential Skills and Experience
