- Permanent, Temporary
Senior Temporary Works Engineer | M54 to M6 Link Road | 6-Month Contract (Extension / Perm Likely)
Featherstone, near Wolverhampton (site-based, Staffordshire)
6-month contract, with a strong likelihood of extension or a permanent offer
I'm working with a leading Tier 1 contractor to find a Senior Temporary Works Engineer for one of the most significant highways schemes in the Midlands: the c.£200m M54 to M6 Link Road.
The project
For years there has been no direct motorway connection between the M54 and the M6 northbound, which pushes heavy traffic onto local roads. This scheme fixes that. It's a new 1.6-mile dual carriageway between M54 Junction 1 and M6 Junction 11, along with major junction works at both ends, new structures and road realignments over the link.
That makes this a rare chance to join a nationally significant project at a stage where temporary works decisions really shape how the job gets built.
The role
You'll lead temporary works design, checking and coordination across a complex live highways environment, making sure solutions are safe, buildable and compliant. You'll:
- Lead temporary works design and checking, integrated with permanent works where needed
- Assess and review third-party temporary works designs
- Manage the technical side of temporary works packages in line with CDM Regulations and company procedures
- Work closely with site teams, designers and the client, and represent the business at project meetings
- Mentor and support less experienced engineers
What you'll bring
- IEng / CEng MICE (or working towards), or strong demonstrable experience in temporary works
- Temporary works design and checking experience, above and below ground, in a range of materials
- Highways or major infrastructure experience, ideally including work near or on live motorways
- The ability to lead design solutions and manage your own workload on a fast-moving project
Why this client?
This contractor is known for a values-led culture where safety is non-negotiable and doing the right thing comes first. Collaboration is at the heart of how they work, people are trusted and encouraged to make the most of their talents, and when things go wrong the response is support, not blame. Their work is driven by a clear purpose: building infrastructure that makes a lasting difference to communities.
For a contractor, that means joining a well-run project team with genuine long-term prospects. For the right person, this contract is very likely to turn into an extension or a permanent role.
