Job description

Devon Partnership NHS Trust is seeking an Estates and Facilities Health and Safety Manager to join our Estates and Facilities Team, based at Langdon, Dawlish.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Director of Estates and Facilities, the post holder will lead and oversee health and safety matters across Estates and Facilities, while supporting Trust managers, committees and staff as required. The role will involve applying relevant legislation and best practice, identifying health and safety hazards and risks, and developing practical solutions.

The Trust is a growing provider of mental health and learning disability services. Our Estates and Facilities team plays a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, secure and effective estate, operating from 30 owned buildings and managing over 46 leased properties.

The team includes 24 Estates staff, 112 Facilities staff, six Corporate Reception staff, a Sustainability and Energy Manager and this Health and Safety Manager post.

The role is based at Langdon, Dawlish, but flexibility is required to support services across Devon, including travel throughout the county and attendance at Wonford House, Exeter.

Main duties of the job

You will have experience of working at a senior or management level and of providing professional leadership within a multidisciplinary environment.

The role involves communicating with a wide range of professionals internally at all levels within the organisation and externally, so excellent verbal and written skills are essential. This will be evidenced through assessments, regular reports, risk management, and analysis of highly complex facts and activity/service in relation to performance targets and strategic objectives. The role should ensure that internal and contracted services deliver safe, high-quality, cost-effective services. We expect you to have excellent IT skills and a working knowledge of a variety of software packages.

You will often work under pressure and without direct supervision, so we are looking for someone confident and capable who can present work methodically, accurately and in a professional manner. You will prioritise tasks and manage your own workload, providing support for our colleagues where required.

You will become an important part of the team, working to ensure that all aspects of work are patient-focused. You will provide support to staff members, which could include dealing with staff grievances and disciplinary issues
