Job description

Investec – Where Out of the Ordinary Happens

At Investec, we do things differently. We're a leading international bank and wealth manager built on a culture of curiosity, entrepreneurial spirit and human connection. Ideas are heard, ambition is celebrated, and impact is encouraged. As part of a team that challenges convention and strives for outperformance, you'll help shape bold solutions for clients who expect something more than the ordinary.

About the team:

Aviation Finance is a specialist lending and investment desk operating as a global team. We provide innovative funding solutions to the aviation industry and work with airlines, lessors and manufacturers. The team raises debt and equity finance through partnerships with global financial institutions and investment funds, while also providing lending from Investec's own balance sheet.

You will work in a flat, entrepreneurial team and engage with colleagues across the front, middle and back office, including Credit and Legal, as well as external lawyers and advisers. Existing relationships with airlines or lessors would be beneficial, but are not essential.

What will I be doing?

You will support the origination and execution of debt and equity transactions, including investments made through managed funds and lending from the Bank's own balance sheet. The role combines financial analysis, modelling, market research and the preparation of transaction and client materials.

  • Creating and operating financial and aircraft maintenance forecast models.
  • Undertaking financial statement, cash flow and valuation analysis.
  • Drafting credit papers, presentations and sales materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Preparing transaction documentation, including letters of intent and term sheets.
  • Conducting market, airline and aircraft-specific research and analysis.
  • Developing pitch materials to support new business opportunities.
  • Working closely with Credit, Legal, middle-office and back-office colleagues, as well as external advisers.

What do I need to bring?

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in aviation, finance, computer science, mathematics, engineering or another numerical discipline.
  • Strong financial modelling capability, including advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • A sound understanding of core accounting and corporate finance concepts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel, together with relevant analytical tools and databases.
  • A keen interest in aviation and a willingness to build a strong understanding of aviation assets and markets.
  • An understanding of business and market drivers, with the ability to translate analysis into clear commercial insight.
  • Relevant regulatory knowledge, or the willingness to develop it as required for the role.
  • Taking initiative and working independently while contributing fully as part of a close-knit team.
  • Applying a logical, analytical and inquisitive approach to complex problems.
  • Building trusted relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicating confidently and clearly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Working effectively in an entrepreneurial environment and dealing positively with ambiguity.
  • Finding practical, better solutions rather than relying on established ways of working.
  • Acting with integrity and supporting the fair treatment of clients and customers.
