Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer – Mechanical Bias Location: Hitchin, Hertfordshire Salary: £53,000 per annum Shifts: 4 on 4 off, Days and Nights, 7 to 7 Industry: Food Manufacturing Job Type: Permanent The Role Synergi Recruitment is recruiting for a Multi Skilled Maintenance Engineer to join a well-established food manufacturing business based in Hertfordshire. This is an excellent opportunity for a mechanically biased Maintenance Engineer to join a busy production environment, working on a range of manufacturing and packaging equipment. The successful candidate will be responsible for planned and reactive maintenance, minimising downtime and ensuring production machinery operates efficiently. Key Responsibilities Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance across the site. Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults on production machinery. Work on conveyors, gearboxes, motors, pneumatics and hydraulics. Carry out welding, fabrication and mechanical repairs where required. Maintain and repair packaging machinery, ovens, fryers and other production equipment. Support continuous improvement projects to improve equipment reliability. Work closely with production teams to minimise downtime. Skills and Experience Required NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Previous maintenance engineering experience within food manufacturing or FMCG. Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills. Experience with welding and fabrication, ideally MIG/TIG. Good understanding of electrical fault-finding, PLCs, sensors and variable speed drives. Experience working on automated production or packaging machinery. Ability to work independently within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
