Step into this Cloud Platform Security Engineer role and build something that matters in Cybersecurity.
Cloud breaches don't make headlines because they're rare. They make headlines because so much now runs on infrastructure that was never designed with today's threat landscape in mind. This established security business, an enterprise-scale player with 250+ staff and a client list built on trust rather than trend, is hiring a Cloud Platform Security Engineer to help keep large, complex environments locked down. You'd be joining a team that treats security as a discipline, not an afterthought.
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
- Design and implement security controls across cloud platforms (AWS, Azure or GCP), covering identity, network segmentation and data protection
- Monitor cloud environments for misconfigurations, vulnerabilities and anomalous activity, then act on what you find
- Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code security baselines so new deployments are secure by default
- Work with engineering teams to embed security into CI/CD pipelines rather than bolting it on afterwards
- Respond to security incidents involving cloud infrastructure, from triage through to root cause analysis
- Produce clear documentation and reporting for audits, compliance reviews and internal stakeholders
Here are the skills you'll need:
- Solid hands-on experience securing at least one major cloud platform, with working knowledge of IAM, VPC design and encryption practices
- Familiarity with security frameworks such as CIS Benchmarks, NIST or ISO 27001
- Scripting ability (Python, Terraform or similar) to automate security checks rather than doing them by hand every time
- A methodical approach to problem-solving. Cloud incidents rarely announce themselves clearly
- Comfortable explaining technical risk to people who don't live and breathe security, without dumbing it down
- Mid-level experience in a cybersecurity or cloud infrastructure role, ideally with some exposure to enterprise-scale environments
Key perks and benefits:
- £54,500 to £66,500, depending on experience
- Hybrid working, based from the Birmingham office with flexibility built in
- Private medical and dental insurance
- Enhanced pension scheme and performance-based bonuses
- A genuinely comprehensive benefits package, not just the phrase on a job ad
Why pursue a career in Cybersecurity?
Demand for cloud security talent keeps climbing while supply hasn't caught up, which means good engineers have real leverage over their career path. Birmingham has quietly become one of the UK's stronger regional hubs for cybersecurity work, with enterprise employers investing in local teams rather than centralising everything in London. Get good at this and you'll rarely be short of options.
This Cloud Platform Security Engineer opportunity is brought to you by The Opportunity Hub UK.
