Senior Petroleum Geologist

About the Role

Our client, a globally recognized energy company, is actively seeking a highly motivated Senior Petroleum Geologist to join their exploration and development team. This position, based remotely with coordination through East London, Eastern Cape, focuses on subsurface characterization, prospect evaluation, and contributing to the company's resource base growth. You will play a key role in analyzing geological data, integrating it with seismic and well information, and identifying new hydrocarbon potential. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in structural and stratigraphic interpretation, basin analysis, and play fairway mapping. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on diverse projects and contribute to strategic decision-making within a leading industry player, providing the flexibility of remote work while aligning with our East London operational region. Key Responsibilities

• Interpret geological data, including core samples, well logs, and seismic data, to understand subsurface geology.
• Develop and refine geological models and maps for exploration and development prospects.
• Conduct basin analysis and play fairway assessments to identify potential hydrocarbon accumulations.
• Integrate geological, geophysical, and engineering data to evaluate prospect risk and potential.
• Collaborate with geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and drilling engineers on integrated project teams.
• Prepare detailed geological reports, presentations, and recommendations for management.
• Contribute to the company's geological database and knowledge management systems.
• Stay updated on the latest geological concepts, technologies, and industry best practices.
• Participate in peer reviews and provide technical input on geological interpretations.
• Mentor junior geologists and share expertise within the team.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology or a related geoscience discipline.
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in petroleum geology, with a focus on exploration and appraisal.
• Strong proficiency in geological mapping, structural geology, and sequence stratigraphy.
• Experience with geological modeling software (e.g., Petrel, GeoGraphix, Kingdom Suite).
• Demonstrated ability to interpret seismic data in conjunction with well data.
• Proven track record in prospect identification and evaluation.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex geological concepts.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment.
• Strong understanding of petroleum systems and source-to-sink processes.
