Head of Estates

In a hospital, a building problem is rarely just a building problem.

An unreliable system, an ageing piece of infrastructure or an essential maintenance programme can have consequences far beyond the estates team.

When everything works as it should, clinicians can focus on delivering care, patients receive treatment in safe and welcoming surroundings, and services can run without unnecessary disruption.

Making that happen takes more than technical knowledge. It takes good leadership.

We're recruiting a Head of Estates who understands the demands of managing complex healthcare environments and wants the opportunity to influence how those environments perform, both today and in the years ahead.

The opportunity

You’ll take a leading role in ensuring that operational estates services are safe, resilient and fit for purpose, while developing the people and processes needed to meet future demands.

This means balancing competing priorities, making informed decisions about investment and maintenance, and building strong relationships with clinical and operational colleagues.

You’ll be close enough to day-to-day operations to understand the challenges your team faces, but senior enough to make a meaningful difference to how things are done.

For someone who enjoys solving problems, developing teams and seeing the results of their work, it’s a rewarding balance.

What will you bring?

We're particularly interested in speaking with experienced NHS Estates Managers, Deputy Heads of Estates, Senior Estates Managers and established Heads of Estates who are ready for a new challenge.

You’ll bring:

• Strong experience in operational estates or hard facilities management within healthcare or another technically demanding environment.
• A sound understanding of statutory compliance, building services and infrastructure maintenance.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams and managing operational budgets.
• The confidence to work with senior stakeholders and find practical solutions to complex challenges.

We're looking for a leader who can build confidence, develop capability and take ownership.
