The Regional Originator is the primary regional contact for the fund, providing an on-the-ground presence across the Region. The role is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with intermediaries, advisers and SME owners, while proactively originating opportunities across the full ticket range.
This is a hybrid origination and credit role. At the smaller end of the ticket range, an automated application and scoring process handles volume, enabling the Originator to focus on generating pipeline and undertaking the qualitative credit work that materially informs underwriting for mid-sized transactions. For larger transactions, the Originator works alongside the established Deal Team. The Region is expected to generate a high volume of applications across a wide range of facility sizes. The Originator's involvement in the credit process scales according to the size of the facility, as outlined below. Role Scope by Facility Size
1. Loans up to £250,000 — Origination and Application Generation
Applications are submitted by borrowers through the website and assessed automatically, producing a decision without individual analyst review. At this level, the Originator is responsible for: Generating application volume through proactive regional origination. Directing enquiries and introducer referrals to the online application process. Triaging enquiries that fall outside the fund's mandate before they enter the process. There is no individual credit analysis workload associated with these transactions. 2. Loans above £250,000 and up to £1,000,000 — Origination and Qualitative Credit Assessment
Applications follow the same online route and are scored on the same basis, but require further analysis before a credit decision can be made. The Originator undertakes this additional analysis, including, where applicable: Enhanced qualitative credit assessment. Borrower site visits. Regional reference checks. On-the-ground commercial due diligence. Written contributions to the credit paper. This is where regional knowledge of borrowers, sectors and intermediary references adds the greatest value. It represents the core analytical component of the role. 3. Loans above £1,000,000 — Origination and Deal Team Support
The Originator is responsible for originating and qualifying the opportunity before working alongside the established Deal Team to progress the transaction. The Originator contributes: Full qualitative assessment of the borrower and opportunity. Site visits and regional commercial insight. Local context on the borrower, its counterparties and relevant sectors. Supporting due diligence and input into the credit paper. Structuring and execution remain the responsibility of the Deal Team. Key Responsibilities
1. Origination and Regional Coverage
Provide continuous regional coverage across Norfolk and Suffolk, with potential coverage extending to Cambridgeshire, Peterborough, Essex and Hertfordshire from time to time. Develop coverage across the East of England, including underserved rural and coastal communities. Proactively originate opportunities across the full ticket range, building a qualified and geographically balanced pipeline. Provide direct contact channels for SMEs and advisers. Act as the visible regional representative of the fund, raising awareness of its lending proposition and accessibility. 2. Intermediary and Stakeholder Relationships
Build and maintain relationships with professional advisers, accountants, lawyers and corporate finance boutiques across the Region. Develop partnerships with Chambers of Commerce, Growth Hubs, local authority economic development teams, universities and incubators. Engage with designated regional partners, including brokers and other intermediaries. Deliver adviser briefings, drop-in sessions, Growth Hub workshops and similar engagement activities. Strengthen referral networks to support a consistent flow of suitable lending opportunities. 3. Credit Process Contribution
Conduct site visits in support of enhanced and full qualitative assessments. Undertake elements of the credit process alongside the Deal Team, including initial qualitative assessment, regional reference checks and on-the-ground commercial due diligence. Provide supporting analysis and written input into credit papers, proportionate to facility size. Apply regional judgement where local knowledge of the borrower, its counterparties or its sector materially informs the credit assessment. Support the development of a well-informed credit view by bringing relevant regional context into the underwriting process. 4. Marketing and Pipeline Management
Coordinate with the Investor Relations/Marketing team on the IR-led digital marketing function. Convert digital reach and marketing activity into qualified regional pipeline. Ensure SMEs across the Region are aware that the fund lends from £25,000 upwards. Support the effective routing of enquiries and referrals into the appropriate application process. Maintain a strong regional presence to maximise awareness, engagement and origination opportunities. Overall Purpose of the Role
The Regional Originator combines proactive regional business development with proportionate credit assessment, ensuring the fund develops a strong and diversified pipeline while bringing valuable local knowledge into underwriting decisions. The role is central to establishing the fund as an accessible and credible lending partner for SMEs across the East of England.
