Role overview

The Head of Content Acquisition owns how Voltility gets its data, and what makes it different. You'll set the collection and sourcing strategy behind the data sets our customers rely on, and lead the journalists, researchers and engineers who deliver it.

The most valuable data in this market only comes from being in it. You'll lead the drive for proprietary intelligence, personally and through your team, drawing on a senior network across developers, utilities, offtakers, lenders and advisers. Alongside that, you'll shape the AI tooling that collects the wider data set at scale, and the enrichment and quality standards that turn its output into intelligence customers trust. It's a chance to build and scale a market-leading data acquisition operation.

Key responsibilities

• Translate customer and product data requirements into a collection and sourcing strategy, and deliver against it
• Own how Voltility's proprietary data is acquired, setting the sourcing route and outbound approach for each high-value data point
• Lead some of the acquisition of the highest-value data points personally, using and extending a senior network across developers, utilities, offtakers, lenders and advisers
• Work with engineering to implement and continuously improve the technical tooling for routine data collection, including what is automated, in what order and how output is QA'd
• Design and run the enrichment layer, so that the team adds context, verification and market detail to tooling output before it moves into delivery
• Manage the data taxonomy and definitions so that journalists, researchers and engineers describe the same thing the same way
• Set and police the quality standard across sourcing, verification, confidence levels and update cadence
• Lead and develop a team of squad leads, journalists and researchers, setting targets for volume, coverage and freshness and reporting against them

Suggested experience

• Senior track record leading research or data acquisition in a B2B data, market intelligence or price reporting business
• Deep working knowledge of US power markets and, ideally, storage, hybrid projects or data centre load; an established network in at least one
• Evidence of acquiring proprietary information directly from market participants and turning it into a repeatable process
• Basic technical fluency: Is comfortable with concepts like structured & unstructured datasets.
• Understand that sourcing & extracting each comes with its own nuances.
• Awareness of how to query data from structured sources using SQL or equivalent, knows what AI and more deterministic web extraction can and cannot do, and can hold a specification conversation with engineers
• Experience setting and enforcing data quality standards
• European language skills are a bonus
