About the Role\n
\nService Care Solutions are recruiting for an Environmental Services Assistant to join a local authority team in Sheffield on a temporary basis.\n
\n
\nThis is a hands-on role suited to someone who is practical, reliable and comfortable working outdoors and in challenging environments. You will help tackle a range of environmental issues across the local area, from illegally dumped waste and animal carcasses to cleaning and disinfecting contaminated properties.\n
\n
\nWorking alongside other officers, you will help maintain environmental standards, respond to reported problems and support the delivery of an efficient, customer-focused service.\n

\n Key Responsibilities\n
\n

\n
• Respond to environmental issues, including fly-tipping, illegally dumped household and commercial waste, and animal carcasses.
\n
• Carry out the clearance, cleaning and disinfection of contaminated, noxious or verminous properties and items, including dealing with faeces and sharps where required.
\n
• Assist with the collection, loading and disposal of condemned foodstuffs.
\n
• Support drainage investigations and remedial work, including helping to seal drains.
\n
• Carry out planned visits and follow-up inspections as directed.
\n
• Drive council vehicles, complete routine vehicle checks and refuel when necessary.
\n
• Clean and disinfect equipment and depot areas, ensuring all equipment is maintained appropriately.
\n
• Complete basic paperwork, job cards and weekly timesheets accurately.
\n
• Handle payments when required, following the correct financial procedures.
\n
• Follow all health and safety requirements, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
\n

What We are Looking For\n

• A valid driving licence and the ability to drive as part of the role.
\n
• Basic literacy and numeracy skills to complete records and follow instructions.
\n
• An understanding of health and safety procedures and safe working practices.
\n
• Someone comfortable working in unpleasant, dirty or potentially hazardous environments.
\n
• The physical ability to lift, move and carry heavy or bulky items.
\n
• A self-motivated approach, with the ability to organise your workload and work independently.
\n
• A team player who can also follow instructions and use their own initiative.
\n
• Good communication skills and a professional, customer-focused attitude.
\n
