Middle Leader- Careers Lead

Salary: £38,343

Are you committed and passionate about preparing autistic children and young people for successful futures?

We are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic Careers Lead to join our established team.

This is a real opportunity to make a difference for the children and young people that we teach. This role combines strategic leadership with classroom practice, enabling you to influence provision across the school whilst maintaining direct involvement in teaching and learning through a 0.5 teaching commitment.

Sutherland House School is a non-maintained special school for autistic children and young people aged 3–19. The school is in the heart of the Creative Quarter in the City Centre, located near the Sneinton Avenues market area.

At Sutherland House School, Positive Behaviour Support and Person-Centred approaches are of paramount importance, and you will be able to contribute to the continued strategic and operational development of these. We offer small class groups, high staffing ratios and excellent opportunities for training and continued professional development.

As Careers Lead, you will play a critical role in the strategic development of careers education, preparation for adulthood and transition pathways across the school. You will work closely with pupils, families, staff and external partners to ensure that every young person is supported to achieve their aspirations and is well prepared for their next stage of education, employment, training or adult life.

You will lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the school's careers programme, ensuring that careers education is embedded throughout the curriculum and wider school experiences. You will promote high aspirations, develop meaningful employer and community partnerships and ensure pupils have access to a wide range of experiences that support their future ambitions.

Working collaboratively with staff across all phases, you will ensure that preparation for adulthood, employability and independence skills are effectively integrated throughout the school. You will also lead on monitoring and evaluating the impact of careers education and support the school in maintaining and further developing its provision against the Gatsby Benchmarks.

You will have the opportunity to work in collaboration with colleges, training providers, employers, supported internship providers, careers services and other external organisations to develop opportunities for pupils and strengthen post-school pathways.

The successful candidate will be an excellent practitioner with strong organisational and communication skills, a commitment to inclusive opportunities and a passion for improving outcomes for autistic children and young people.

Previous experience of careers education, transitions, preparation for adulthood, employer engagement or post-16 pathways would be advantageous. Experience of working with autistic children and young people or within an additional needs environment is desirable, although full training and support will be provided.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who shares our ambition that every young person leaves Sutherland House School equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to lead a fulfilling adult life and positively contribute to their community.
