Staff Data Engineer | £100k to £150k | Data Platform Ownership
We're partnering with a high-growth technology business looking to hire a Staff Data Engineer to play a pivotal role in defining the future of their data platform.
This is a genuine Staff Data Engineer opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex data challenges at scale, influencing technical direction and driving best practice across engineering teams.
As a Staff Data Engineer, you'll take ownership of platform architecture, establish engineering standards and help shape the long-term data strategy. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders and engineering leadership to ensure the platform can support growing data, analytics and AI capabilities.
What you'll be doing
- Defining the technical vision for a large-scale data platform
- Designing robust batch and real-time data pipelines
- Driving best practices around data quality, observability and governance
- Mentoring engineers and raising engineering standards
- Partnering with platform, product and engineering teams on strategic initiatives
- GCP / BigQuery
- Kafka
- dbt
- Python
- SQL
- Terraform
What we're looking for
- Proven experience as a Staff Data Engineer, Principal Data Engineer or Lead Data Engineer
- Strong Python and SQL skills
- Experience with streaming technologies and modern data architectures
- Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and containerised environments
- Ability to influence engineering direction without direct authority
