About the Role

We are working closely with an inclusive, progressive school in Central London to appoint a dedicated and passionate Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO). This is a vital leadership position responsible for driving the strategic direction, implementation, and evaluation of provision for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The successful candidate will lead the specialist learning support team, guide teaching staff on adaptive practice, and ensure that every student with additional needs receives the targeted intervention and resources required to thrive academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Lead the development and implementation of the school’s SEND policy, tracking the progress of students on the SEND register and evaluating the impact of interventions.

  • EHCP Management: Oversee the statutory Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) assessment process, annual reviews, and multi‑agency casework.

  • Staff Guidance & Training: Provide expert advice, mentoring, and continuous professional development (CPD) to teachers and teaching assistants on differentiated learning and effective support strategies.

  • Parental & Multi‑Agency Collaboration: Build strong, supportive partnerships with parents, carers, educational psychologists, speech therapists, and local authority SEND services.

  • Provision Mapping: Manage the deployment of specialist resources, teaching assistants, and interventions to maximize student outcomes and well‑being.

Ideal Candidate Specification

  • Qualifications: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) alongside the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (NASENCO) qualification (or working towards it, where applicable).

  • Experience: Proven, successful experience teaching and coordinating SEND provision within a UK primary or secondary school setting.

  • Knowledge: Expert, up-to-date knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, statutory regulations, and evidence‑based intervention strategies.

  • Skills: Outstanding communication, organizational, and empathetic leadership skills, with the resilience to manage complex cases and multi‑agency coordination.

  • Vetting: An enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or willingness to process a new one).
