Help Shape the Future of Major Infrastructure Delivery

At Babcock we’re working to create a safe and secure world, together, and if you join us, you can play your part as a Improvement Manager at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site.

The role

As an Improvement Manager, you’ll play a key role in supporting the delivery of one of the UK's most significant infrastructure and engineering programmes. Working within the 10 Dock Redevelopment Programme, you'll help identify, develop and implement improvements to processes, procedures and working practices across the project lifecycle, driving greater efficiency, collaboration and delivery excellence.

Day-to-day, you’ll have an opportunity to influence the way complex engineering and construction projects are delivered, working with multidisciplinary teams across programme management, engineering, design, construction and customer organisations. Your work will directly contribute to improving programme performance, reducing inefficiencies and ensuring successful project outcomes in a highly regulated environment.

  • Reviewing and improving project, engineering and delivery processes to enhance programme performance and efficiency.
  • Leading improvement initiatives, workshops and working groups to embed best practice and consistent ways of working.
  • Supporting the transition of information, deliverables and decisions from design through to construction and commissioning activities.
  • Building strong relationships across design organisations, programme teams, construction partners and customer stakeholders to improve collaboration.
  • Monitoring and reporting on improvement activities, identifying barriers to delivery and recommending solutions to senior leadership.

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Essential experience of the Improvement Manager

  • Experience working on complex civil engineering, infrastructure or major programme environments.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build productive relationships across diverse teams.
  • Proven ability to deliver measurable improvements through process optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Experience operating effectively across technical, engineering and project delivery functions.
  • Ability to influence, coordinate and align multidisciplinary teams to achieve programme objectives.

Qualifications for the Improvement Manager

We value difference and don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and/or willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you.

  • Relevant qualifications in engineering, project management, programme management or continuous improvement would be advantageous.

Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.

Many of the positions within our company are subject to national security clearance and Trade Control restrictions. This means that your eligibility for certain roles may be affected by your place of birth, nationality, current or former citizenship, and any residency you hold or have held.
