School Information

An Outstanding secondary school in Bromley is seeking a practical and enthusiastic Science Technician to join its well-established Science Department. The school is committed to providing high-quality teaching and learning, with an emphasis on practical investigation, scientific curiosity and strong academic outcomes across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

The successful candidate will work alongside experienced science teachers to ensure that laboratories are properly equipped, practical lessons are prepared efficiently and students can participate safely in a wide range of scientific activities. The school offers a supportive working environment where technical staff play an important role in delivering engaging lessons and maintaining high standards across the department.

The Role

The Science Technician will provide practical and technical support to the Science Department, helping teachers prepare for lessons, demonstrations and experiments across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5.

Responsibilities will include preparing apparatus, organising laboratory equipment and setting up materials before practical sessions. The postholder will ensure that teachers have the resources required for their lessons and that equipment is collected, cleaned and stored appropriately afterwards.

The role will involve monitoring stock levels, ordering consumables and maintaining an accurate inventory of chemicals, apparatus and other laboratory materials. The successful candidate will help keep preparation rooms and laboratories organised, ensuring that equipment is readily accessible and stored safely.

Health and safety will be a key priority. The technician will follow established procedures for handling chemicals, preparing solutions and disposing of laboratory waste. They will carry out routine equipment checks, report faults and help ensure that practical activities are conducted in accordance with departmental safety requirements.

The successful applicant will also support science teachers with demonstrations, practical assessments and examination preparation. They may assist with maintaining specialist equipment, identifying opportunities to improve laboratory organisation and ensuring that resources are available for the department's planned curriculum.

Requirements

Candidates should have a strong interest in science and previous experience in a laboratory, school science department or technical support environment. A relevant scientific qualification would be advantageous, although candidates with suitable practical experience and transferable skills are encouraged to apply.

Applicants must demonstrate excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and a responsible approach to health and safety. The ability to follow technical instructions, manage competing deadlines and communicate effectively with teaching staff is essential.

Experience handling laboratory equipment, preparing practical materials and maintaining stock records would be beneficial.

What the School Offers

The successful candidate will gain experience across different scientific disciplines and contribute directly to the quality of classroom teaching.
