Our client is seeking a reliable and practical School Caretaker to support the daily maintenance, security and upkeep of a school in Harlow, Essex. This opportunity would suit someone with experience in caretaking, property maintenance or facilities support who takes pride in maintaining safe and well-presented premises. The successful candidate will assist with routine site inspections, minor repairs, general maintenance and site security. Role Overview As School Caretaker, you will help ensure the school's buildings, grounds and facilities remain safe, secure and operational. You will carry out routine inspections, complete minor repairs and report any faults or hazards requiring further attention. You will also assist with preparing rooms for school activities, maintaining communal areas and supporting contractors when required. The ideal candidate will be organised, proactive and able to work independently while following health and safety procedures. Key Responsibilities Assist with opening and securing the school premises. Inspect buildings, classrooms and external areas. Complete minor repairs and general maintenance. Identify and report faults, damage and hazards. Check doors, windows, locks and access points. Maintain tidy corridors, entrances and communal areas. Assist with moving furniture and equipment. Prepare rooms for meetings and school events. Monitor outdoor areas, pathways and entrances. Receive deliveries and assist with moving supplies. Support authorised contractors on-site. Store tools and equipment safely. Follow health and safety procedures and risk assessments. Report urgent maintenance concerns promptly. Help maintain a safe environment for pupils, staff and visitors. Experience and Skills Previous caretaking, maintenance or facilities experience is desirable. School premises experience would be advantageous. Practical DIY and minor repair skills.
