A high-performing secondary academy in Salisbury, Wiltshire, is seeking a strategic, ambitious Head of Social Sciences to lead its Business Studies, Economics, and Sociology teaching team on a full-time, permanent basis starting in January.

Job Overview

The Head of Social Sciences takes strategic responsibility for curriculum design, quality assurance, internal moderation, and student attainment across GCSE, A-Level, and vocational pathways in Business, Economics, and Sociology.

Working alongside faculty colleagues and senior leadership, you will lead department line management, refine schemes of work, manage internal controlled assessment moderation, and oversee Sixth Form academic results. This is a full-time, permanent contract.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and quality assurance across Business Studies, Economics, and Sociology pathways

• Teach high-rigor lessons in your primary subject specialism across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5

• Line-manage and mentor department teaching staff, conducting peer observations and CPD sessions

• Oversee vocational portfolio moderation (BTEC/CTEC) and controlled assessment procedures

• Analyze assessment data to implement targeted revision workshops and academic intervention programs

• Manage departmental budgets, digital resource subscriptions, and exam board submissions

Candidate Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS, QTLS) with an honors degree in Business, Economics, Sociology, or related field

• Demonstrated track record of driving strong GCSE and A-Level outcomes across social science subjects

• Prior experience in departmental coordination, key stage leadership, or vocational moderation

• An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
