Job description

School Caretaker - Cobham, Surrey

Job Type: Full Time - Fixed Term (1st January - 31st August 2027)

Reed’s School is a fantastic place to work. Teachers and pupils alike flourish in its friendly, supportive, forward-thinking community. It is one of the leading Independent Day and Boarding Schools in the country and is proud to be providing an education for around 800 pupils, including a significant number who are funded by our charitable foundation. The school is all-boys from 11-16 and has a co-educational Sixth Form. From September 2027 they will move to becoming fully co-educational by accepting girls in Year 7.

We are looking to appoint a School Caretaker to join our team to assist the Estates and Facilities team with caretaking and general maintenance across the School site and to carry out driving duties as and when required. There may also be a requirement to carry out Security duties.

The successful candidate will be required to work across both Reed’s School and Ripley Court School.

The role-holder will work for 40 hours per week with the ability to work flexible shift patterns (e.g. weekends on a rota).

The salary for this role is £18,500.00 based on an FTE of £27,750.00.

The closing date for this vacancy will be midday on Monday 2nd of November 2026.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The School may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants, and all applicants will be required to provide details of their online profile, including social media account names/handles, as part of their application.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self-declaration form in advance of attending an interview (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
