Description

Security & Emergency Preparedness Advisor

Chemring Energetics UK manufactures energetic-material products and components for defence, civil-defence and commercial customers. The Security & Emergency Preparedness Advisor is responsible for the practical control of physical security, fire-management and emergency-preparedness arrangements at the Ardeer high-hazard manufacturing site.

This is a site-based operational role requiring previous experience in a regulated, safety-critical environment. Relevant backgrounds include explosives, energetic materials, munitions, defence manufacturing, chemicals, petrochemicals, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, utilities, industrial logistics or comparable high-hazard operations. General corporate security experience without exposure to industrial sites, emergency response or fire-safety responsibilities is unlikely to be sufficient.

Essential experience and background

  • Required: practical experience in physical security, site security, emergency preparedness, emergency response, fire safety or operational resilience.
  • Required: experience in defence, explosives, energetic materials, munitions, chemicals, petrochemicals, oil and gas, pharmaceuticals, utilities, industrial logistics or another regulated high-hazard environment.
  • Experience supervising security officers, operational personnel, contractors or an emergency-response team.
  • Experience producing and maintaining emergency plans, physical-security procedures, fire plans, risk assessments, incident reports and management briefings.
  • Experience planning or delivering emergency exercises, evacuation drills, fire-alarm tests, training, inspections and compliance audits.
  • Experience investigating physical-security, fire or emergency-response incidents and managing corrective actions.
  • Working knowledge of relevant security and fire-safety legislation; knowledge of the Explosives Regulations 2014 and L151 guidance is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate with site management, contractors, emergency services, regulators and Local Resilience Partnerships.
  • Security Institute BTEC Level 3 in Security Management, or a relevant equivalent qualification.
  • Knowledge of the Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Fire Safety (Scotland) Regulations 2006.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety, Fire & Risk Management, or equivalent.
  • Experience with COMAH emergency planning, explosives security, hazardous materials transport or Dangerous Goods Safety Adviser support.
  • Experience leading or training Emergency Response Teams, fire wardens or incident-response personnel.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide specialist advice on physical security, fire management and emergency preparedness.
  • Manage the site security operation, including the Security Officer team and contractor interfaces.
  • Develop, maintain and test emergency plans, response arrangements and escalation protocols.
  • Lead and coordinate Emergency Response Team training, fire-warden training, alarm tests and site-wide exercises.
  • Develop security plans, standards, procedures and risk assessments in line with legislation, guidance and Chemring Group requirements.
  • Monitor access‑control and physical‑security arrangements for a high‑hazard manufacturing facility.
  • Maintain security records and logs, prepare reports, and provide clear operational and management briefings.
  • Conduct security and fire inspections, audits, monitoring activities and incident investigations.
  • Ensure the security provisions of the Explosives Regulations 2014 and associated L151 guidance are addressed.
  • Support COMAH emergency planning and coordination with Local Resilience Partnerships, emergency services and other external stakeholders.
  • Conduct fire risk assessments, maintain fire plans and coordinate fire‑prevention and evacuation arrangements.
  • Support the DGSA in relation to hazardous materials entering and leaving the site.
