Head of Compliance (SM16) - Insurance
MERJE is partnering with a leading international insurance business to recruit a UK Head of Compliance.
This is a high-profile leadership opportunity combining ownership of the compliance function supporting the UK & Ireland business with exposure to a wider global group.
Reporting to the Global Chief Compliance Officer and sitting on relevant Executive Committees, you will be a trusted adviser to senior leadership, bringing clear judgement, constructive challenge and commercially informed advice. You’ll have the opportunity to shape the compliance strategy, develop the team and ensure regulatory considerations are embedded in business decisions.
The opportunity
- Lead and develop the compliance function, setting priorities and delivering a risk-based compliance plan across the UK & Ireland business.
- Hold SMF16 responsibility, providing effective oversight and clear reporting to Boards, Executive Committees and relevant governance forums.
- Build and maintain open, proactive relationships with regulators, overseeing regulatory engagement, notifications and reporting.
- Advise on regulatory and conduct matters, helping the business deliver its strategic objectives while maintaining strong standards of compliance.
- Champion Consumer Duty and good customer outcomes, identifying potential harm and driving meaningful action.
- Oversee SMCR requirements in the UK and the Individual Accountability Framework in Ireland.
- Anticipate regulatory developments and lead the business response, aligning local requirements with global policies and expectations.
- Coach and develop the compliance team, strengthening capability and promoting a collaborative, accountable culture.
What we’re looking for
An experienced compliance leader with a strong understanding of insurance regulation, products and distribution models. You’ll combine technical credibility with the confidence to influence senior stakeholders, challenge decisions constructively and translate complex requirements into practical business advice.
You will bring:
- Significant relevant experience within regulated insurance
- Proven people leadership experience and the ability to develop an effective compliance team.
- Experience advising senior management and contributing to Board or committee discussions.
- A strong grasp of conduct risk, customer outcomes and regulatory governance.
- The ability to work across an international organisation, balancing local obligations with group requirements.
- Commercial judgement, personal integrity and a pragmatic approach to solving problems.
