Job description

Teacher of Economics

Location: Redbridge

School Type: Secondary School & Sixth Form (Co-educational)

An ambitious, high-performing, and forward-thinking secondary school in the London Borough of Redbridge is seeking an articulate, commercially sharp, and passionate Teacher of Economics to join their thriving Social Sciences faculty. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic educator—whether an experienced A-Level practitioner or a talented Early Career Teacher (ECT) with strong subject knowledge—looking to inspire the next generation of economists, policy makers, and business leaders.

About the Role

As a Teacher of Economics, you will bring macro and microeconomic theories to life, connecting classroom concepts to contemporary global events, fiscal policies, and financial markets. Teaching primarily across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Economics & GCSE/Vocational Business), you will foster analytical rigor, data interpretation skills, and critical evaluation in students preparing for top universities and modern careers.

  • Start Date: Immediate or upcoming term

  • Environment: A welcoming co-educational secondary school with a highly successful Sixth Form and a strong tradition of academic achievement

  • Culture: A collegiate, supportive, and academically invigorating environment backed by an approachable leadership team and dedicated departmental resources

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-impact, engaging Economics lessons across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 that break down complex economic models, market structures, and international trade dynamics.

  • Prepare Sixth Form students thoroughly for A-Level examinations (e.g., Edexcel, AQA, OCR), developing their essay-writing technique, quantitative analysis, and evaluative reasoning.

  • Integrate real-world case studies—including inflation trends, monetary policy decisions, and environmental economics—into everyday teaching.

  • Monitor, track, and evaluate student academic performance, offering targeted feedback and intervention to ensure maximum progress.

  • Lead or support departmental enrichment, such as student economic societies, the Bank of England Target Two Point Zero challenge, and university preparation workshops (Oxbridge/Russell Group).

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential.

  • A strong academic degree in Economics, Financial Economics, Political Economy, or a closely related discipline.

  • Proven track record or demonstrated capability of delivering high-quality A-Level Economics instruction (KS4 Business experience is desirable).

  • In-depth understanding of national A-Level exam board specifications and current assessment criteria.

  • Exceptional communication, presentation, and debate-facilitation skills, with a passion for connecting academic theory to real-world global affairs.

Salary & Benefits

  • Pay Scale: Outer London MPS/UPS pay scale (commensurate with experience), with potential TLR opportunities available for key stage management or enterprise coordination.

  • Comprehensive continuous professional development (CPD), tailored Sixth Form teaching mentorship, and clear pathways for career progression.

How to Apply

If you are an energetic, forward-thinking Economics specialist ready to make a lasting impact in a brilliant Redbridge school, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your application as soon as possible for consideration.
