An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced and forward-thinking Lead Practice Nurse to join Alwoodley Medical Centre, a large and established NHS GP practice in North Leeds, serving approximately 20,000 patients.

We are looking for an inspiring nursing professional who is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care, supporting colleagues and making a genuine difference to the future of primary care.

This is an exciting opportunity to combine hands-on clinical practice with leadership, workforce development and service improvement. You will lead and support our Nursing and Healthcare Team, contribute to QOF performance, clinical governance and quality improvement projects, and work collaboratively with our GP Partners, Senior Management Team and Primary Care Network.

We welcome applications from established Lead Nurses seeking a new challenge and experienced Practice Nurses who are ready to take the next step into leadership.

We offer competitive, negotiable remuneration, opportunities for professional development and flexible working arrangements, with both full-time and part-time applications welcomed.

If you are ambitious, approachable and passionate about developing people and improving patient care, we would love to hear from you.

Main duties of the job
The Lead Practice Nurse will play a pivotal role in leading, developing and shaping nursing services at Alwoodley Medical Centre, combining clinical practice with strategic leadership and service improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, motivating and developing our Nursing and Healthcare Team through supervision, appraisals, mentoring, training and professional development.
  • Delivering and overseeing high-quality patient care, including long-term condition management, screening, immunisations, prevention and nurse-led clinics.
  • Driving QOF performance, enhanced services, clinical targets, patient recalls and accurate clinical coding.
  • Leading clinical audits, quality improvement projects, new care pathways and innovative approaches to improving access, capacity and patient outcomes.
  • Strengthening clinical governance, CQC readiness, safeguarding, infection control, patient safety and evidence-based standards.
  • Supporting workforce planning, rotas, recruitment, resource management and efficient nursing workflows.
  • Working closely with GP Partners, management, our Primary Care Network and community services to improve integrated care and population health.

You will have the opportunity to influence service priorities, champion new ideas and develop a confident, high-performing nursing team, with agreed time for leadership alongside clinical duties.
