Job overview

Are you looking for the challenge of maintaining complex, cutting edge medical technology? If this we would love to hear from you. There is a vacancy for a Specialist Electronics Technician based in the Radiotherapy Department in the Rosemere Cancer Centre at the Royal Preston Hospital.

You will have the opportunity to work on state-of-the-art medical linear accelerators and associated radiotherapy equipment

The department currently has 8 Linear Accelerators, 2 Philips bore CT scanners and a superficial X-Ray therapy unit.

All linear accelerators have VisionRT Surface Guided Radiotherapy (SGRT) systems installed, the department is a centre of excellence for SGRT.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for applicants with a degree or equivalent level of electronics knowledge and at least 5 years extensive practical experience in interpreting circuit diagrams, fault-finding to component level, electronic repair and applying electronic workshop practices. Applicants with lesser qualifications but equivalent knowledge gained through experience will be considered. Comprehensive training to a highly specialist level will be provided, both on site, and by attendance on extensive manufacturers training courses. You should have basic engineering skills and be able to use hand, power and machine tools. A practical knowledge of IT, networking and coding is advantageous.

The post is graded at Band 6 but will be appointed, and held, at Band 5 until membership of the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT) is achieved.

The successful applicant will join an electronics/multi-skilled section specialising in linear accelerator support. Dedication, flexibility and willingness for some out-of-hours work are essential for this role.

Working for our organisation

The Radiotherapy Department is housed within a purpose-built building at the Royal Preston Hospital known as the Rosemere Cancer Centre. It provides treatment for a population of around 1.6 million people covering Lancashire and south Cumbria.

Although most of the time will be spent at Royal Preston Hospital we work closely with other centres within the North West Radiotherapy Specialised Services Clinical Network and some working at these sites will be required.

Visits to the department to discuss the post and to get an idea of what we do are strongly encouraged.
