Job description

The Global Communications Manager, Publishing plays a delivery-focused role within the Global Communications, Publishing team, working closely with the Global Communications Lead to bring Publishing's strategy, transformation and change agenda to life for colleagues, leaders and external audiences across our international business.

The role takes strategic direction from the Global Communications Lead and turns it into high-quality, well-executed communications plans, content and channel activity that build understanding, confidence and alignment behind our One Publishing narrative.

Working across our four publishing markets and with communications teams in each, the Manager helps ensure Publishing's communications are consistent, timely and high quality - combining strong writing and content skills with the organisation and attention to detail needed to deliver complex programmes at pace.

Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities

Communications planning and delivery

  • Translate strategic direction from the Global Communications Lead into detailed, actionable communications plans, content calendars and channel plans.
  • Own day-to-day delivery of communications activity for major strategic and change communications programmes, leadership communications and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Project manage communications activity end to end - coordinating timelines, content, approvals and channels to ensure delivery is on time and to a high standard.
  • Flag delivery risks, dependencies or resourcing issues to the Global Communications Lead early, with options for resolving them.

Content and storytelling

  • Write and produce clear, compelling content: leader briefings, intranet (MyBauer) articles, Viva Engage content, videos and scripts, newsletters, town hall materials and campaign content. All of these should bring Publishing's strategy and the One Publishing narrative to life for colleagues.
  • Support executive storytelling by helping leaders prepare for townhalls, videos, Q&As and other colleague-facing moments.
  • Ensure all content is consistent with the agreed narrative, tone and messaging architecture across the four Publishing markets.

Channel management

  • Manage the day-to-day running of core Publishing communications channels, ensuring content is accurate, timely, well presented and aligned to the wider communications plan.
  • Work with local communications teams across Germany, UK, Poland and France to ensure global content lands with local relevance.

Employee engagement

  • Support the planning and delivery of employee engagement activity, including leadership calls, town halls, campaigns and recognition moments.
  • Help build and maintain a consistent, high-quality approach to employee engagement communications across Publishing.

Measurement and insight

  • Support the Global Communications Lead in developing and applying measures for communications programmes, including engagement, narrative understanding and channel effectiveness.
  • Gather data, feedback and insight from markets and channels, and help turn this into clear reporting for the Lead and Chief Communications Officer.
  • Apply lessons learned into future planning and content.

Stakeholder support and governance

  • Build strong working relationships with stakeholders and communications colleagues across the four Publishing markets and wider Bauer Media Group.
  • Support the Global Communications Lead in maintaining consistent communications governance, standards and ways of working across markets.
  • Act as a reliable, responsive point of contact for communications colleagues seeking guidance on plans, content or narrative alignment.

Risk and reputation

  • Help identify emerging communications risks and support the drafting of sensitive issue or crisis communications materials, under the direction of the Global Communications Lead.
  • Handle sensitive information with appropriate judgement and discretion.

Job Requirements

Essential

  • Solid experience in corporate, internal, change or transformation communications within a large, complex and matrixed organisation.
  • Proven ability to turn strategic direction into clear, high-quality communications plans and content, working at pace and to deadline.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills, with experience producing content for multiple channels (intranet, video, newsletters, leadership materials).
  • Strong project management and organisational skills, able to manage several work-streams simultaneously.
  • Experience working with and supporting senior leaders and stakeholders, including in sensitive situations.
  • Comfortable working across multiple markets, cultures and time zones, and collaborating with local communications teams.
  • A collaborative, can-do approach - happy to take direction from the Global Communications Lead while working independently on delivery.

Desirable

  • Experience of the publishing, media or a related consumer-facing industry.
  • Familiarity with communications measurement tools and approaches for evaluating employee engagement and change communications effectiveness.
  • An additional European language (German, Polish or French) beneficial given Publishing's four core markets.
