Job description

DescriptionEmployerLocation

At MIAG, we are building something special. Having opened our doors as an Independent Special School in September, we are establishing a nurturing, ambitious, and highly personalised specialist school where every young person is known, valued, and supported to succeed. Our vision is to transform educational experiences for students with SEND and SEMH needs by creating a community built on trust, relationships, and limitless possibility. We are seeking an inspiring, compassionate, and ambitious Assistant Headteacher (with a primary teaching background) to join us at this pivotal moment in our journey and help shape the culture, curriculum, and future success of our school from the very beginning.

This is a unique opportunity to combine strategic leadership with a teaching commitment, making it particularly well suited to primary practitioners who are passionate about personalised learning and inclusive education. Working closely with the Headteacher, families, external professionals, and our dedicated staff team, you will play a pivotal role in driving high standards of teaching and learning, supporting staff development, and ensuring every student receives the bespoke provision they need to thrive.

As Assistant Headteacher, you will contribute to the strategic direction of the school while maintaining a direct impact on students through teaching and curriculum leadership. You will help create an environment where relationships are at the heart of practice, where barriers to learning are understood and addressed, and where young people are supported to rebuild confidence, develop resilience, and achieve meaningful success. The exact nature of the leadership responsibilities would be decided through discussion with the successful candidate.

As a senior leader, you will have a strong understanding of what our students need to learn, develop, and flourish, ensuring that every young person is challenged and supported to achieve their full potential. You will possess a secure understanding of curriculum design, teaching, learning and assessment, enabling you to support, guide and develop colleagues so that they can deliver outstanding outcomes for students. We value leaders who are visible, approachable and committed to making time for staff, listening carefully to their views and acting on feedback where appropriate. Above all, you will lead with kindness, humility and a genuine team ethos, being considerate, helpful and willing to step in and provide practical support whenever needed.

This role offers an exciting opportunity for a teacher or middle leader who is ready to take the next step in their career within a dynamic and innovative specialist setting. If you are committed to inclusive practice, thrive in a child-centred environment, and want to help shape the future of a growing specialist school, we would love to hear from you.
