  • Material Preparation: Prepare timber, metals, plastics, and other materials required for practical KS3, KS4, and post-16 design lessons and assessments.

  • Classroom & Student Support: Assist teachers during practical sessions, providing technical guidance to students on tool usage, fabrication techniques, and design projects.

  • Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all workshops, prep rooms, and storage areas comply strictly with CLEAPSS, COSHH, and school health and safety standards.

  • Stock & Inventory Control: Track department consumables, manage tool inventories, and coordinate orders for raw materials and supplies within designated budgets.

Requirements

  • Experience: Previous experience working as a technician in an educational setting, or a practical background in carpentry, engineering, model making, or technical manufacturing.

  • Technical Skills: Confident handling a range of manual workshop equipment (e.g., pillar drills, band saws, sanders) and familiarity with CAD/CAM software (such as TechSoft 2D Design, Fusion 360, or SolidWorks).

  • Certifications: Recognized Health & Safety / Machine Operator certificates (such as DATA / CLEAPSS certification) are highly advantageous.

  • Attributes: Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, a proactive approach to safety, and the ability to engage positively with secondary pupils.

  • Safeguarding: An Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or readiness to complete a full check prior to start).

What the School Offers

  • A well-equipped, modern Design & Technology department with supportive teaching staff.

  • Comprehensive onboarding and ongoing CLEAPSS health and safety training.

  • Excellent transport connections across South East London.
