Job overview

We are seeking an experienced, highly motivated Clinical Technologist or Radiographer to join our Nuclear Medicine (NM) and PET-CT team at Singleton Hospital, Swansea, as an Advanced Practitioner in PET-CT and Nuclear Medicine.

Applicants must be either a qualified Radiographer with current HCPC registration or a Clinical Technologist registered with the Register of Clinical Technologists (RCT). The successful candidate will have substantial specialist experience in NM/PET-CT or Radiography, together with evidence of advanced clinical practice, leadership, staff development and service improvement.

Working with a high degree of professional autonomy, the post-holder will provide advanced clinical expertise and operational leadership across the service. They will manage complex clinical and operational situations, support workforce coordination, and contribute to clinical governance, quality assurance, radiation safety and statutory compliance.

As the department prepares to introduce a new static PET-CT service, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in implementing, establishing and developing this service, which will primarily support cancer pathways.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead service development at a significant stage in the department’s growth. The post offers considerable scope to advance specialist practice, support research and innovation, and help shape the future delivery of PET-CT and NM services within Swansea Bay University Health Board.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will work as an Advanced Practitioner and Operational Manager, providing expert clinical practice and operational leadership across PET-CT and Nuclear Medicine.

Working autonomously, the post-holder will oversee safe and effective patient pathways, manage complex clinical and operational situations, coordinate service activity and staffing, and ensure consistently high-quality imaging. They will provide expert advice and escalation support and work closely with clinicians, Radiotherapy, Medical Physics, radiopharmacy and other multidisciplinary teams.

The post-holder will lead staff supervision, training and competency assessment; support the implementation and development of the static PET-CT service; and contribute to clinical governance, quality assurance, audit, research, service improvement and incident review. They will ensure compliance with IR(ME)R 2017, IRR17, professional standards and local procedures and remain accountable for their professional decisions and practice.
