BMS Design Engineer Hybrid Working

If youre an experienced BMS engineer looking to broaden your technical capability rather than simply repeat the same type of design work this role offers substantial end-to-end involvement.

Alongside producing BMS designs youll work across software graphics panel drawings technical submittals FAT/SAT activity commissioning support and engineering standards. The company also has a strong training and development ethic giving you the opportunity to continue building your technical capability while taking responsibility for projects from design through delivery.

What youll actually be doing and why it matters

As a BMS Design Engineer youll take ownership of the design element of projects ensuring work is technically correct delivered to programme and kept within budget.

Your remit will include:

• Producing technical submittals including Descriptions of Operation equipment and electrical schedules valve schedules network topologies and O&M documentation.
• Creating BMS software and graphics checking panel drawings and loadings and managing amendments through to client approval and manufacture.
• Supporting projects beyond the drawing stage through FATs SATs commissioning site surveys and resolution of technical issues.

Youll also liaise directly with customers and work closely with project sales and engineering colleagues. Importantly youll have responsibility for company strategy libraries and contribute to software change-control processes.

Youll see how your designs perform through manufacture commissioning and delivery while gaining exposure to the commercial aspects of projects including budgets variations and project margins.

There is also scope to share your knowledge. The role carries managerial responsibility for new Trainee Design Engineer positions as they are created within the business.

Essentials

Youll need proven experience in a similar BMS or building controls role with strong HVAC controls knowledge and an understanding of system integration.

You should have in-depth knowledge of at least two BMS systems and be comfortable working with customers project teams and engineers as well as producing detailed technical documentation.

Commercial awareness project management skills and the ability to organise multiple project demands are also important.

The challenges

This is a broad role. Youll need to move confidently between detailed design work customers project priorities and site-based technical problems while keeping designs on programme and within budget.

Youll also be expected to identify changes to contractual scope and make sure design variations are communicated to the Project Manager.
