Job description

Leeds | £40,000–£50,000 DOE | Hybrid Working The Opportunity

Synergem Recruitment is delighted to be partnering with a fast-growing financial services firm in Leeds to recruit an experienced Senior Accountant. Having doubled in size over the past year this is an exciting opportunity to join the business at a pivotal stage in its development. The position is ideally suited to an experienced practice accountant who enjoys reviewing work, resolving technical queries and taking ownership. Rather than spending most of your time preparing routine reconciliations, you will focus primarily on reviewing and signing off completed files, ensuring work is accurate, compliant and ready for the client. You will also have genuine input into how the business operates, helping to develop consistent review standards and improve processes as the team continues to grow. The Role

Key responsibilities will include: Reviewing year end accounts and corporation tax returns for sole traders and small limited companies

Reviewing self-assessment tax returns and VAT returns

Signing off completed work or returning it to the preparer with clear, constructive review notes

Identifying errors, inconsistencies and areas requiring further investigation

Resolving technical accounting and tax queries

Liaising directly with clients by telephone and email to obtain information and resolve outstanding matters

Supporting and providing guidance to colleagues preparing the work

Helping to formalise and improve the firm's review standards and processes

Ensuring assignments are completed accurately, efficiently and within agreed deadlines

About You

We are looking for someone who: Has at least three years' experience within a UK accountancy practice

Has worked with sole traders and small limited companies

Has previous experience reviewing accounts and tax work prepared by others

Can confidently review a file, identify when something does not look right and clearly explain their reasoning

Communicates effectively with clients and colleagues

Provides clear, practical and constructive review notes

Is organised, commercially aware and comfortable managing their own workload

Wants to take ownership and contribute to the continued development of the business

Applications are welcomed from ACCA, ACA or AAT qualified accountants, as well as candidates who are qualified by experience. However, practical capability and sound judgement are more important than a particular qualification for this role. What's on Offer

Salary of £40,000 to £50,000, depending on experience

Hybrid working

37.5 hour working week

25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays

Paid CPD and professional subscriptions

Genuine scope to influence processes and review standards

Excellent progression opportunities within a rapidly expanding business

If you are an experienced practice accountant looking to move away from routine preparation work and into a review led role with genuine influence, we would love to hear from you.
