Job description

Junior Sous Chef – The Beach Hut, Watergate Bay
Hotel

Offering free surf lessons, on-site parking, team
discounts and a monthly tip share with TiPJAR.

Watergate Bay offers more than just a kitchen. It’s a place
to take your culinary career to new heights.

Everything
we do is rooted in warmth, confidence and care — with
sustainability and community firmly at our heart.

Our Junior Sous Chef role

For whiling away easy hours, The Beach Hut is a place to
take a break from the surf, breathe deep and surround yourself with good food
and great company.

Reporting to our Senior Sous Chef, you’ll play an important
role in delivering an exceptional guest experience through consistently high
standards of food preparation and service.

Working closely with our Head Chef and Executive Chef,
you’ll also cook, prepare and portion dishes, whilst setting a positive example
for our wider team.

This full-time position offers a 40-hour workweek, with all
the benefits of working for Watergate Bay Hotel.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Supporting the Executive Chef and Head Chef with
the day-to-day organisation and running of the kitchen.
  • Preparing, cooking and presenting high-quality
dishes to our hotel standards, taking pride in consistency, flavour and
    presentation.
  • Taking an active role in leading and supporting
the kitchen team during service, helping to keep things organised and running
    smoothly.
  • Supporting and developing junior members of the
team, sharing your knowledge and helping them build their skills and
    confidence.
  • Assisting with the preparation and organisation
of the kitchen ahead of service, ensuring the team is ready to deliver a great
    service.
  • Monitoring the quality, consistency and
presentation of dishes throughout service and supporting the team where needed.
  • Assisting with stock control, including stock
    rotation, organisation and replenishment.
  • Helping maintain high standards of food safety,
hygiene and cleanliness across the kitchen.
  • Following kitchen procedures and daily checks,
including temperature records and food safety processes.
  • Helping create a positive, safe and
well-organised working environment for the whole kitchen team.
  • Step up and support the running of the kitchen
in the absence of the Head Chef or other senior chefs, providing an opportunity
    to develop your leadership skills.

You’ll also

  • Help
to ensure a safe environment for both staff and guests and following
company Health and Safety policies and procedures.

  • Follow
preservation standards for the proper handling of all food products
    (stored at the correct temperature).

  • Promote
our shared responsibility to look after our team and planet.

What you’ll be sharing with us

  • Experience as a Chef de Partie, or someone ready to take the
    next step in their career.
  • NVQ Level 1 & 2 (or equivalent) as a minimum.
  • A Food Hygiene certification.
  • A genuine passion for food, with an interest in local and
    seasonal produce.
  • A team-focused and supportive approach, with the confidence
    to help and guide others.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in maintaining high
    standards.
  • The ability to stay calm, organised and positive in a busy
    kitchen environment.
  • A proactive attitude, with a willingness to learn, develop
    and take on new responsibilities.
  • Flexibility with working hours and shift patterns.
  • Professional presentation and a genuine commitment to
delivering a great experience for our guests.

Why us?

Watergate Bay is a place for connection, for freedom, for
everyone. Join the team and you’ll be working on one of the UK’s most striking

You’ll be part of a values-led business that cares deeply
about its people, its place and its future — and a team that’s committed to
doing things differently.

Alongside a competitive salary, you’ll enjoy a wide
range of benefits including discounts on hotel stays, food and drink, spa
treatments and surf experiences, with ongoing social events throughout the
year.

From hands-on training to time spent by the sea, we’re
committed to helping you grow, refine your craft and thrive in the
kitchen.

Working at Watergate Bay Hotel isn’t just a job — it’s a
