\nService Care Solutions are recruiting on behalf of a local authority for an experienced Senior Ecologist to join their Environmental and Planning team on a temporary basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced ecologist to provide specialist ecological advice and support the authority across planning, development and biodiversity matters.\n
\n
\nThe role offers a flexible hybrid working arrangement, with one day per week based in the Loughborough office and four days working remotely.\n
\n
Key Responsibilities\n
\n

\n
• Provide specialist ecological advice to support planning applications, development proposals and other council projects.
\n
• Review ecological surveys, assessments, reports and mitigation strategies.
\n
• Advise on biodiversity, nature conservation and protected species matters.
\n
• Assess the ecological implications of planning proposals and provide clear recommendations.
\n
• Support the delivery of biodiversity net gain and habitat enhancement requirements.
\n
• Liaise with planning officers, developers, consultants, landowners and other internal and external stakeholders.
\n
• Contribute to the development and implementation of ecological policies, guidance and procedures.
\n
• Provide professional advice on relevant environmental legislation, regulations and best practice.
\n
• Help ensure ecological considerations are appropriately incorporated into development and land management decisions.
\n
• Prepare clear written reports, recommendations and technical advice for a range of audiences.
\n

Requirements\n
\n

\n
• Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation or a related discipline.
\n
• Significant professional experience working as an Ecologist, Senior Ecologist or in a similar environmental role.
\n
• Strong knowledge of UK ecology, biodiversity and nature conservation legislation.
\n
• Experience providing ecological advice within a local authority, planning or development environment.
\n
• Good understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and its application within the planning process.
\n
• Experience reviewing ecological surveys, reports and mitigation proposals.
\n
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear professional advice.
\n
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently in a remote/hybrid environment.
\n
• Membership of CIEEM or working towards membership would be advantageous.
\n
