About the Role

We are partnering with a vibrant, supportive school in the Birmingham area to appoint a dedicated and compassionate Safeguarding Officer. This is a crucial pastoral role dedicated to fostering a safe, inclusive environment, supporting vulnerable students, and ensuring rigorous child protection standards are upheld across the school.

The successful candidate will work side-by-side with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to manage welfare concerns, maintain precise records, and collaborate closely with external agencies and Birmingham safeguarding partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Child Protection: Serve as a reliable point of contact for safeguarding and welfare issues, responding swiftly and appropriately to disclosures.

  • Multi-Agency Working: Liaise effectively with Birmingham Children's Trust, local police, and external support services to champion student welfare.

  • Record Keeping: Maintain detailed, secure, and confidential safeguarding records in line with statutory requirements and school protocols.

  • Student Advocacy: Provide a consistent, reassuring presence for students needing guidance, emotional support, or early intervention.

  • Staff Guidance: Assist the DSL in ensuring all staff remain vigilant and aligned with current statutory guidelines, including Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).

Ideal Candidate Specification

  • Experience: Previous professional experience in a safeguarding, pastoral, social work, or youth welfare capacity within an educational or community setting.

  • Knowledge: Sound understanding of UK statutory safeguarding frameworks (KCSIE), child protection procedures, and data confidentiality.

  • Skills: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to handle delicate situations with empathy, tact, and complete discretion.

  • Vetting: An enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or readiness to undergo clearance).
