A high-performing primary academy in Nottingham is looking to appoint an ambitious and enthusiastic Year 6 Teacher to join its established teaching team as soon as possible. The school has high expectations for both attainment and behaviour and is committed to providing pupils with a broad, challenging and engaging education.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is confident delivering the KS2 curriculum and who enjoys preparing pupils for the transition into secondary education. The successful candidate will join a supportive year-group team and benefit from experienced leadership and structured professional development.

The Role

  • Year 6 Leadership: Take full responsibility for a Year 6 class, establishing clear routines, high expectations and a positive learning culture from the outset.

  • Curriculum Delivery: Plan and deliver engaging lessons across English, mathematics, science and the wider primary curriculum, ensuring lessons are appropriately differentiated.

  • SATs Preparation: Prepare pupils effectively for statutory assessments while maintaining a broad and balanced curriculum.

  • Assessment: Use formative and summative assessment to identify gaps in knowledge and adapt teaching accordingly.

  • Intervention: Work with teaching assistants and intervention staff to provide targeted support to pupils requiring additional challenge or intervention.

  • Pastoral Care: Build strong relationships with pupils and families, supporting both academic progress and personal development.

  • Transition: Help pupils develop the independence, resilience and organisational skills required for secondary school.

The Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Strong experience teaching within KS2, ideally Year 5 or Year 6.

  • Good knowledge of the National Curriculum and statutory assessment requirements.

  • Confident planning for pupils with a wide range of abilities.

  • Strong classroom management and behaviour-management skills.

  • Able to use assessment data effectively to improve pupil outcomes.

  • Excellent communication skills when working with parents, colleagues and external professionals.

  • A reflective and ambitious teacher who is committed to continued professional development.

The Environment

  • Academic Standards: High expectations for attainment and progress across the school.

  • Leadership: Experienced senior leaders who provide clear direction and regular professional support.

  • Collaboration: Teachers work closely within year groups to share planning, resources and effective practice.

  • Pupil Support: Dedicated pastoral and teaching-assistant support available where required.

  • Development: Regular CPD opportunities and encouragement to take on additional responsibilities.
