About the role
Pod-Trak is seeking a proactive and commercially focused Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team. You will be responsible for managing costs, contracts, and financial performance across a range of rail, civil engineering, and energy projects. The role involves working closely with project delivery teams to ensure accurate cost forecasting, contractual compliance, and commercial reporting, helping to drive sustainable business growth.
Key responsibilities:
Manage the day-to-day commercial activities for allocated projects from tender through to final account and commercial close-out.
Prepare tenders, review contract documents, identify commercial risks, and support tender submissions and cost estimates as required.
Review contract terms and ensure compliance with NEC, JCT, or other relevant contractual requirements.
Prepare and submit client valuations, monthly applications, variations, change control documentation, early warnings, and compensation events in line with contract requirements.
Meet regularly with Project Managers to review budgets, project costs, forecasts, cost performance, and commercial matters.
Procure and manage subcontractor packages, including preparation of orders, agreements, payment applications, payment certificates, and monthly subcontractor payments.
Liaise with the Project Team and Procurement Department regarding the purchase or hire of materials and plant.
Maintain detailed cost records, produce monthly CVRs and commercial reports, and carry out ongoing cost analysis.
Ensure client certifications are issued for completed works, liaise with Accounts to raise invoices, approve supplier invoices, and chase payment when due.
Identify risks and opportunities across tenders and projects, providing commercial advice to maximise project profitability.
Participate in progress meetings and liaise with clients, stakeholders, managers, and supervisors on commercial processes and project requirements.
Complete project close-out documentation and submit final commercial information to Accounts in a timely manner.

Requirements
Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related discipline
Experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering, rail, or utilities sectors
Strong understanding of NEC and/or JCT contract administration
Excellent analytical, numerical, and negotiation skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and standard commercial software tools
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Effective communication and relationship-building skills with clients and supply chain partners
Desirable
Chartered status (MRICS) or working towards professional qualification
Experience within high-voltage, utilities, or infrastructure projects
Understanding of cost control and project reporting systems
Experience supporting framework or multi-site delivery models
