Adecco are recruiting on behalf of a Local Authority for a Public Protection Officer.
Location: Havering
Salary: £23.27 per hour PAYE / £30.38 per hour Umbrella
Contract type: Full Time
The Role
As a Public Protection Officer, you will play a key role in protecting residents and improving environmental standards across the borough. You will investigate complaints relating to environmental protection and statutory nuisance matters, with a particular focus on noise nuisance cases.
Key responsibilities include:
- Investigating statutory nuisance and environmental protection complaints
- Conducting enforcement activities and serving notices where required
- Managing a varied environmental protection caseload
- Providing comments and advice on licensing applications, planning applications, and Section 61 consents
- Attending court proceedings, hearings, and tribunals to provide evidence
- Leading on prosecutions in line with the Council's Enforcement Policy
- Using noise monitoring equipment and interpreting results where necessary
- Working collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to deliver an effective service
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Experience investigating statutory nuisance cases, particularly noise complaints
- Knowledge of Environmental Protection legislation and enforcement processes
- Experience serving statutory notices and undertaking enforcement action
- Strong report writing, communication, and case management skills
- The ability to manage a diverse and demanding caseload effectively
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and case management systems
- Experience attending court or formal hearings would be highly advantageous
- Experience using noise monitoring equipment is desirable
- A Degree, Diploma, or relevant professional qualification in Environmental Health, Environmental Protection, or a related discipline (or equivalent)
