We Are Looking For:

  • A qualified Band 5 Podiatrist wanting to develop strong skills and progress to a Band 6 Podiatrist / Band 6 depending on clinical experience with a passion for community-based care.

Main duties of the job
As a Development Podiatrist, you will provide high-quality assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management for patients with a range of lower-limb and foot health needs, supporting them to maintain mobility and independence.

You will work collaboratively with Podiatrists and other health and care professionals to deliver safe, coordinated and person-centred care, seeking guidance from Band 6 and Specialist Podiatrists where appropriate.

This is a structured development opportunity. You will undertake clinical rotations and receive regular supervision and mentoring to develop your clinical knowledge, confidence and decision-making skills.

Working with your manager, you will identify your learning needs and work towards the agreed competencies required to progress to Band 6 level.

You will:

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based podiatry care to a diverse patient population.
  • Develop your assessment, clinical reasoning and caseload management skills.
  • Work collaboratively across community and multidisciplinary services.
  • Participate in clinical rotations to broaden your experience.
  • Engage in supervision, mentoring and continuous professional development.
  • Build the knowledge, skills and competencies required to progress from Band 5 to Band 6.

Person Specification
Education/Qualification
Essential

  • BSc Degree In Podiatric Medicine or Diploma (if qualified prior 1991)
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council
  • Certificate in local anaesthesia


Desirable

  • POM certificate


Experience
Essential

  • Experience of multidisciplinary and interagency working
  • Experience of working with a wide range of patient and disease / pathology types including the at-risk and high-risk foot


Desirable

  • Experience of clinical supervision / mentoring
  • Experience of service development


Skills and Knowledge
Essential

  • Knowledge of recent developments in the profession
  • Knowledge of podiatric theory and practice
  • Knowledge of SOCAP code of conduct
  • Awareness of Equal Opportunities - theory and practice
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance -theory
  • Up-to-date knowledge of clinical issues and treatment development


Desirable

  • Knowledge of audit


Other
Essential

  • Ability to evaluate and analyse patients concerns and needs and propose effective solutions
  • Ability to undertake intricate work in using sensitive diagnostic tools and a range of surgical instruments. e.g. in the management and debridement of poor tissue viability wounds and nail surgery
  • Organisational and planning skills to manage your own work time.
  • Experience of delivering health education


Desirable

  • IT Skills including use of Internet, e-mail, Word Processing
  • Hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010)
