Job description

Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Consultant Orthodontist to join our dynamic Oral Surgery & Orthodontics team at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn. This is an excellent opportunity to lead and shape specialist orthodontic care for our local community, providing high-quality assessment and treatment for children and adults with a wide range of orthodontic needs. Main duties of the job
To lead the delivery of specialist orthodontic care for children and adults, managing a wide range of complex cases including multidisciplinary and orthognathic treatments. Provide high-quality clinical care, contribute to the development of the orthodontic service, and work closely with colleagues in Oral Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, Paediatrics, and regional partners.

As Consultant Orthodontist, your primary responsibility will be to maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of orthodontic patients, including complex and interdisciplinary cases. You will provide specialist diagnosis, prevention and treatment of malocclusion, ensuring high-quality care across all aspects of the service.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver safe, effective orthodontic treatment for children and adults, including complex secondary-care cases.
  • Participate in combined orthodontic-orthognathic pathways in collaboration with NNUH.
  • Contribute to clinical governance, audit and continuous improvement within the service.
  • Support and supervise junior dental staff, including DCTs, and contribute to teaching activities.
  • Maintain continuing professional development and engagement with CME.
  • Help ensure the smooth running and development of the orthodontic service, including participation in departmental meetings and annual job planning.
  • Comply with Trust policies relating to safeguarding, health and safety, infection control, data protection and equality.

Qualifications
Essential

  • BDS or equivalent
  • Full registration with the UK General Dental Council
  • Full registration on GDC Specialist Register in Orthodontics
  • Programme in Orthodontics obtaining CCST or equivalent


Desirable

  • Further postgraduate qualifications (e.g. MSc, DDS or equivalent)


Professional Values & Behaviours, Skills and Knowledge
Essential

  • Evidence of SAC approved specialist training in orthodontic to consultant level or equivalent
  • Wide experience in treatment of complex orthodontic cases appropriate to Secondary care
  • Meets the criteria set out in the Specialist generic capabilities framework
