• £685–£700 per day via Umbrella
• Hybrid – 50/50 overall, Barrow-in-Furness
• Initial 3-month contract
• SC Clearance required

ABOUT THE CLIENT

Our client is a major organisation operating within a complex and highly secure technology environment, delivering critical infrastructure and systems across a large-scale enterprise estate. They are looking for an experienced UNIX Engineer to support an important infrastructure project, with a particular focus on Oracle Solaris environments and advanced virtualisation.

THE UNIX ENGINEER ROLE:

As a UNIX Engineer, you will be responsible for managing, supporting and improving enterprise UNIX environments, with a particular focus on Oracle Solaris platforms and advanced virtualisation technologies.

You will be involved in system configuration, migrations, upgrades and resilience, ensuring critical UNIX platforms remain secure, highly available and operationally robust.

Key responsibilities include:

• Administering and maintaining Oracle Solaris systems on T-series hardware
• Configuring and managing LDOMs (Logical Domains)
• Supporting Oracle T5, T7 and T8 platforms
• Delivering UNIX system migrations and upgrades
• Designing and implementing resilience clusters for high availability and disaster recovery
• Monitoring system performance and troubleshooting complex UNIX issues
• Working closely with infrastructure and application teams
• Supporting UNIX networking, storage and security requirements
• Ensuring systems comply with relevant security and operational standards

UNIX ENGINEER ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

• Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Solaris
• Expert knowledge of LDOM configuration and management
• Experience with Oracle T-series hardware – T5, T7 and/or T8
• Proven experience delivering UNIX migrations and system upgrades
• Experience with cluster technologies, resilience and failover
• Strong understanding of UNIX networking, storage and security
• Experience working within large-scale enterprise environments
• Willingness to work onsite in Barrow-in-Furness as required

DESIRABLE:

• Oracle Solaris or related UNIX certifications
• Shell scripting and/or Python
• Experience with automation tools
