School Caretaker – Wimborne

Job Title: School Caretaker Location: Wimborne, Dorset Salary: Dependent on experience Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent Start Date: As soon as possible About the School: We are seeking to appoint a reliable and practical School Caretaker on behalf of a welcoming school in Wimborne. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining a safe, secure, clean, and well-presented environment for pupils, staff, and visitors. Working as part of the school’s site team, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day operation and upkeep of the school premises, carrying out routine maintenance and responding to issues as they arise. Key Responsibilities: Act as a keyholder, supporting the secure opening and closing of the school premises. Carry out routine inspections of classrooms, corridors, outdoor areas, and communal spaces. Complete general maintenance, DIY, minor plumbing, decorating, and repair work. Monitor heating, lighting, water, alarm, and other building systems. Support regular health and safety checks and report any hazards promptly. Coordinate access for contractors and ensure visitors follow site procedures. Maintain outdoor areas, including litter picking, basic grounds work, and seasonal maintenance. Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and resources around the school. Respond promptly to maintenance requests from teaching and support staff. Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities. Requirements: Previous experience in caretaking, facilities, premises, maintenance, or a related practical role. Good understanding of general building maintenance and health and safety procedures. Ability to work independently and prioritise a varied workload. Practical approach with strong problem-solving skills. Good communication skills when dealing with staff, pupils, visitors, and contractors. Reliable, organised, and able to take responsibility for the security of the site. An enhanced DBS/background check will be required for the successful candidate.
