Job Description
£60,000 – £100,000 on-target earnings · £1,000 per install, paid on installation · uncapped · self-employed · appointments booked for you
Spark Energy UK installs residential solar and battery systems across England and Wales. We generate the enquiries, our team qualifies them and books the appointment, and you sit it and close it. We are now putting a consultant into every territory we do not yet cover, and this opening is for the Cumbria and North Lancashire territory — the CA, LA and PR postcode areas — working from your home around Kendal or Penrith.
This is not a door-knocking or self-generation role and it is not a call-centre job. Every appointment you attend is a homeowner who asked us for a quote and agreed a time. Your job is the bit in the living room.
What the job is
- Attending pre-booked, in-home appointments issued to you through our own app, SparkOS — you see the appointment, the customer's details and the enquiry before you set off
- Surveying the property, designing the system in SparkOS and presenting a priced proposal on the first visit
- Closing on the day where the customer is ready, and running your own follow-up where they are not — the pipeline is yours to manage
- Working a territory of up to 90 minutes' drive from your home, planned by drive time rather than by postcode, so the appointments you are given are ones you can reach
- Keeping SparkOS up to date after every visit — outcome, notes, next step — because that is what keeps the appointments coming to you
What you must have — we check all of this before an offer
- A track record selling solar or a comparable in-home product (batteries, windows, heat pumps, home improvements) direct to homeowners, on a commission basis
- The four numbers a real closer has to hand: appointments sat per week, close rate, average system value and how many months you have actually been selling solar — we ask for them on the screening call and we phone a named manager to check
- Full UK driving licence and your own reliable vehicle
- A smartphone or tablet you can run SparkOS on
- Right to work in the UK, verified before you start
- Genuinely wanting to work self-employed on commission — no basic, no draw, no retainer. If you need a salary to bridge the first month, this is not the role, and we would rather say so here than on the call
What we would like
- Currently selling solar in customers' homes — the people we are after are already doing this job somewhere else
- Experience presenting from a tablet on the first visit rather than returning with a quote
- A close rate you are happy to have checked
How you are paid
- £1,000 per install, paid on installation — a flat amount per completed system, so you know what every sale is worth before you sit it
- £60,000 – £100,000 a year on target. That is 60 to 100 installs a year — five to eight a month — from the appointment volume we issue and the close rates our current consultants achieve. It is uncapped: what you earn above that is down to you
- Self-employed: you invoice us, you keep your own books, and there is no basic salary, draw or retainer
- No vehicle, fuel, phone or expenses are provided — the commission is set with that in mind
What Spark provides
- Pre-booked, qualified appointments issued through SparkOS — you are not asked to generate your own
- A three-day training course at the start, covering SparkOS, our products and our sales process, run by our Head of Training
- Phone support from the Head of Training and the Sales Director while you get up to speed, and refreshers whenever you want them
- SparkOS access: surveying, system design, proposal and pricing in one app, on your own device
- A named territory. We do not stack consultants on top of each other
How we take people on — fast
We know a good closer is not short of options, so the process is short:
- A 15-minute screening call with our Sales Director — the four numbers, your patch, when you could start
- A reference call to a named manager who has seen you sell
- Right-to-work check and the self-employed agreement
- A place on the next training course, with the date named in the offer
We aim to get from first call to offer inside a week. The first month is a two-way check: at day 30 we look at what you have sat and closed together and agree whether it is working.
Start dates are set by the course date, not by paperwork — we are hiring for this territory now.
Apply with a CV, or just the four numbers and your current employer. Questions before applying: ask for Leon Brown, Sales Director.
