Vacancies – Careers Advisers / Trainee Careers Advisers

Full‑time (37 hours) roles available in North East Wales (Flintshire or Wrexham) and South West Wales and either a full or a part time (4 days) role available in Mid Powys.

  • Careers Adviser salary: £32,262 – £37,330 (starting at £32,262), pro rata for part time.

  • Trainee Careers Adviser salary: £30,993, pro rata for part time.

  • Welsh language skills: Essential, various skill levels – Proficient for the role in NE Wales; Advanced for the role in Mid Powys and Intermediate for the role on South West Wales (see below for further explanation of these skill levels).

Our Services to Young People team supports learners in education and our Working Wales Team support young people and adults to enter or re-enter the labour market through assessment, guidance and tailored support. Our advisers are passionate about helping individuals realise their potential.

About the Roles

2 vacancies in the Services to Young People Team:

Locations: Mid Powys (Welsh Language Skills required - Advanced); NE Wales - Flintshire or Wrexham (Welsh Language Skills Required - Proficient)

These roles focus on preparing young people for key transitions in their education and future careers. You will work across mainstream schools, special schools, FE colleges and with those educated outside mainstream settings. As with all our adviser roles, you will use a range of tools to deliver one‑to‑one support, interactive group sessions and digital presentations.

1 vacancy in the Peripatetic Team

Location: South West Wales (Welsh Language Skills Required - Intermediate)

This role will work flexibly across both service delivery areas of Services to Young People and Working Wales, supporting the South West region. Candidates must be willing to travel to multiple locations and demonstrate a strong interest in our full range of customer services. The successful applicant will have an assigned contractual base. Travel time beyond this base counts as working hours, and additional travel expenses will be reimbursed.

General Information

  • Our Advisers/Trainees must have suitable transport to fulfil their duties and attend learning and development events in Wales and occasionally the UK.

  • Careers Adviser applicants must hold the QCF Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development (or equivalent) and be eligible for the CDI Register of Practitioners.

  • Trainee Careers Advisers must hold a degree (or equivalent) and will complete the Level 6 Diploma as part of the role, with some independent study required.

  • An Enhanced DBS Disclosure is required.

Welsh Language Skills Level Descriptors:

Intermediate: You’ll be able to understand and communicate clearly on everyday and work‑related topics, hold engaging conversations, and explain ideas, experiences, and plans with confidence. You should also be able to read straightforward work communications and produce clear, well‑structured emails or letters to share information, make requests, or organise activities.

Advanced: You should be able to follow most discussions, contribute confidently in conversations with fluent speakers, and express your views clearly on a range of everyday and work‑related topics. You’ll understand most written Welsh materials with support from a dictionary and produce clear, accurate short reports, reviews, and correspondence for both internal and external audiences.

Proficient: You can understand what you hear or read fluently, communicate fluently on complex topics, and lead or contribute to discussions. You can summarise information from different sources and adapt your style for different audiences and settings. You are able to work on a professional level, communicating through various means in the medium of Welsh.
