Renowned Independent School | Wells, Somerset

Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: Competitive Independent School Salary

Inspire Curiosity About the World Around Us

Great Geography teachers do more than teach maps, landscapes, and populations. They inspire students to understand the complex relationships between people, places, and environments, helping them develop the knowledge and skills to engage with an ever-changing world.

A leading independent school in the Wells area is seeking an inspiring and knowledgeable Geography Teacher to join its thriving academic community. This is an opportunity to teach curious, motivated students who enjoy learning and are encouraged to question, investigate, and think critically about global and local issues.

Whether exploring physical geography, climate change, urbanisation, sustainability, or global development, you will have the freedom and support to bring your subject to life through engaging lessons, fieldwork opportunities, and real-world case studies.

You'll join a school where teaching is valued, class sizes are small, relationships matter, and staff are trusted to focus on what they do best: inspiring young people.

The Opportunity

As a member of the Geography department, you will:

  • Teach Geography at GCSE and A Level.

  • Deliver engaging and intellectually stimulating lessons.

  • Develop students' analytical, investigative and geographical enquiry skills.

  • Prepare students for examination success while fostering a genuine interest in the world around them.

  • Contribute to curriculum development and departmental initiatives.

  • Support enrichment activities including field trips, geography societies, competitions, guest speakers and educational visits.

  • Play an active role in the wider life of the school through pastoral and extracurricular involvement.

About You

The successful candidate will:

  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent teaching qualification.

  • Possess strong subject knowledge and a passion for Geography.

  • Have experience teaching Geography at GCSE and/or A Level.

  • Build positive and productive relationships with students.

  • Demonstrate high expectations for achievement, effort and behaviour.

  • Bring enthusiasm, creativity and fresh ideas to the classroom.

  • Enjoy working collaboratively within a supportive department and wider school community.

Why Join This School?

The school offers:

  • Highly motivated and engaged students.

  • Small class sizes and excellent teacher-student relationships.

  • Outstanding facilities and resources.

  • A supportive and collaborative staff culture.

  • A strong commitment to staff wellbeing and professional development.

  • A rich programme of extracurricular activities and educational visits.

  • Excellent opportunities for career progression within a respected independent school environment.
